Dear all,

I have received this email from Allan Smith at the Telford Steam Railway . He has made available for download some very useful drawings and data -- many thanks Allan.

He is also looking for someone to create a Templot track plan of their yard at Telford.

Anyone here local to Telford? Allan can be contacted (as the webmaster) at:

I recently came across Templot quite by accident.

I'm not a modeller - I work in 1:1 scale at Telford Steam Railway.

I have a number of BR tech drawings for S&C work which might be of interest to you/your members/users.

I have scanned and zipped everything I have - it can be downloaded from

http://www.telfordsteamrailway.co.uk/forms/sc.zip

Feel free to download (32MB - 22 drawings) and use as you see fit, better download it, don't rely on it being there forever as I have limited storage space available.

I am looking for info on GWR S&C dating from circa 1907 if anyone has any info.

Have you considered a 1:1 plug in for people like me who can't afford the professional software for full size layouts?

If any of your users, perhaps local to Telford, would be interested in creating a drawing of our yard it would be of great interest as we are planning to remove a standard turnout with an interleaved 3 way, and also replacing/repairing an interleaved 3 way swinging heel design which was partially removed over 50 years ago, and your software might just help with that.

Incidentally whilst browsing your newsgroup I saw a comment that 'prototype switches don't have a radius' - that simply isn't the case. Every turnout has a switch radius and a turnout radius, even if the main is straight.

Hi All,

I used to live in Telford about 5 minutes from the railway, in fact I walked past their yard every day walking my dogs.

Recently however I have moved to France (45 km North West of Paris) so it's not quite so convenient now.

They also have a 5" gauge miniature railway there and I discussed Templot with one of the guys who was involved with that, in fact they were going through some track replacement and installation of some 3 way turnouts and mentioned just how difficult it was to get the alignment correct.

Of course I mentioned Templot and they seemed really interested in it's capability to generate prototypical flowing trackwork.

Regards,

Jim

We  should  be  grateful  to  Allan  for  this  sort  of  information,  and  I  would  not  therefore  like  to  be  thought  ungrateful  if  I  venture  to  disagree  (particularly  with  someone  actively  involved  with  the  real  thing).  But  is  it  not  the  case  that  straight  cut  switches,  as  found  on  fairly  early  track  have,  as  the  name  implies,  no  radius  other  than  the  radius  of  the  main  line?

Allan  Ferguson

P.S.  I'm  glad  to  see  he  spells  his  first  name  properly!
