Dear all,

I'm pleased to announce that Templot Club now has an Image Gallery feature.

Each member has an area to upload their own images, which can be viewed separately, or combined into a single gallery for all of Templot Club.

You can upload whatever you wish, but obviously it's intended mainly for images connected with Templot or railway track. If you upload your family snaps, be aware that they will be visible to the entire world! :)

This now makes it possible to include several images in a message, instead of the present attachment limit of only one per message (or needing to sign up with another web site to store your images). Note however that it is only for images -- photos, screenshots, drawings, diagrams, etc. The gallery won't accept .box and .bgs files which must still use the existing attachment mechanism.

To include an image in your message this way, do this:

1. Upload it to the Image Gallery.

2. Write your message and click the Insert image from Gallery button:

3. Your images will be displayed -- select the required image by clicking on it. It will appear immediately in your message.

Repeat for each image which you want to include.

Including images this way is preferable to adding an attachment, because they are stored outside of the database. This makes the database much smaller and faster.

Here's the link to the Image Gallery. It should be fairly self-explanatory -- click the Upload Images link to upload your images in the usual way. You can upload up to 5 images in one go:

There is an Image Gallery button at the top of every page for this.

The Image Gallery plug-in for UltraBB was created by David Williams and released today. Many thanks David.

regards,

Martin.

An update on the new Image Gallery feature. :)

There is now a button on the message posting form to allow an image from your uploaded images to be selected and immediately inserted in your message:

2_091807_120000000.png2_091807_120000000.png

I just used it to insert the screenshot above.

It's extremely convenient and quick; there is no copying and pasting needed. Clicking the button displays a window containing all your uploaded images, and clicking one of the images inserts it instantly in your message. Using this method you can insert as many images in a single message as you wish, interleaved with your text.

regards,

Martin.

Dear all,

I have made some further changes to the message editor. You can now upload and insert an image in your message in one simple operation.

Click the new button 1 on the editor (see below). A dialog will then appear to let you select and upload the image. When upload is complete, a second dialog will appear with the new image showing as the most recent of your images in the Image Gallery. Click the image and it will appear immediately in your message. You can repeat this process as many times as you wish to include multiple images in your message, interleaved with your text. There is no need for any right-clicking or copying, and unlike using an attachment you can see the image(s) immediately.

If the image you want to insert is already in your Image Gallery, click the button 2 instead to go directly to the second dialog.

You will notice that I have been uploading a lot of images unconnected with Templot or track while I have been testing this. :) They are purely random images from my computer and can be ignored. In due course I will delete them.

p.s.
This works in Firefox and Internet Explorer only. In other browsers, please use the previous methods to insert an image in your message.

regards,

Martin.
