The reason for the move is that our previous hosting provider modified their database server settings over New Year, and since 28th December I have not been able to make reliable backups of the Templot Club database. It would be a great misfortune to lose the accumulated content on Templot Club, and having a reliable backup is essential. So we have moved to a new host. Templot Club is now in the safe hands of Jim Hale at Data 1 Systems in Columbus, Ohio. Jim is the developer of the UltraBB software which runs Templot Club, and has a very robust backup schedule on all his hosted accounts. In addition, I can now make my own backups again. Which means that our content is safely backed up on both sides of the pond! Unfortunately moving the whole thing means that you need to update your bookmarks to the new address, and log in again here before you can post messages. Sorry about that. ... software Hi Dave, That aspect doesn't concern me much. I'm not really interested in what happens in other software unless it would clearly be helpful in the design of model railway track. For example Jeff Geary's Trax has an ingenious dummy template which can be used as a double-track spacer. I've been minded to steal that idea for years. What would be helpful would be to know which specific functions you would want to assign to a custom button or menu item or keyboard shortcut? The internal design of Templot having been developed piecemeal over 20 years, would make it a major coding task to allow any function to be assigned to any button. What I do feel is that it is easy to forget that Templot is a hobby program. It is not a case of "time is money" as in business software. It doesn't actually matter if it takes a few seconds to find the next function in the menus. In fact it can be helpful to give you time to think what you are doing, and not become click-happy ...

I am happy to provide a drawing BUT I would point out that my dimensions are entirely developed from the materials to hand- thus, the thickness of the bit of brass I found in my scrap box dictated the design of the whole thing. What I would therefore prefer to do is to illustrate the rocket science a bit- not least because those more knowledgeable than myself can put me right! In developing the templates for Brighton 75A, I wanted to add the position of the conductor rail to the running tracks of the West Coast (Hove) branch and West Sidings. Here's how I did it: First of all, some sums... The extremely helpful webpage: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/russelliott/3rd-4th.html shows the distance from the inside face of the running rail to the centre of the conductor rail to be 1' 4"= 5.3mm in 4mm/ft (I ignored the tolerances given on the webpage). Using the rail section drawings lower down the same page for the 106lb rail, the rail head is given as 1.08 mm. Take half of this (0.54mm) and subtract from the dimension above to ...

For the really modern scene there is also a strong trend to make all Passenger Carrying lines Bi-Directional. This Bi-Di facility can be complete or as an reduced provision. In either case it means that all connections become potentially Facing for Passenger Carrying movements- and therefore all the points get to be fitted and interlocked with FPL arrangements. In addition- the development of larger and faster freight trains from the 1960s tended to mean that any Facing Points in non-Passenger lines increasingly became fitted with FPLs or self-Locking equipment. Reading several of your threads the 6ft way is only nominal so I felt that I would be safer clearance wise if I improved the track spacing to 50 mm. I then set up the {gauge/ Scale selector- custom-a} to basically EM dimensions except adjacent track centres of 50 mm and Min radius of 900 mm. When I start creating track I get EM dimensions. The Gauge/ Scale selector shows "50.00 mm Adjacent track centres, T S. (44.67 in use)". 1. ... /index.php?n =Sheds.LLANRWST As far as the junction at Bethesda; I did find (on line) some late BR diagrams c1960s thru 1990s which show initially a standard dual track single line junction as per the Board of Trade (BOT) recommendations and later a simplified ladder junction and later still the junction is removed completely. So my guess is that it was (in later LNWR and LMS days) a standard dual track single line junction. When I look at your Templot plan I can see roughly how it has developed. You have copied the major aspects of the prototype plan however; as Nigel has hinted in his response, when you flipped the plan to its mirror image you have lost a very basic aspect of UK prototype practice wherein the trains drive on the left hand track and facing points were avoided where possible. I hope that you find my comments constructive and that I am not rehashing things that you may already well know. Best regards, Pierre Last edited on 15 Jan 2014 06:28 by Pierre posted: 15 Jan ...
