... topic: 2199 Sketchboard items on templates posted: 15 Apr 2013 01:57 from: Martin Wynne At present, printing and PDF files from the sketchboard (file> print... menu item) is a normal Windows print to a single page. Although this is sufficient for display material, it would be nice to have the sketchboard items shown on the full-size construction templates while working on the baseboard. So I have now implemented this for the print and PDF output. It has been a battle of wits to interface the sketchboard engine with Templot's multi-page template printing, but I believe I have got there in the end. There is a lot to be said about this and a host of new option settings, so I will have to prepare some detailed notes, but I think the default settings will suit most situations. Here are some screenshots showing the new options. This is a typical sketchboard item, Brian's signal box drawing (bitmap image item): 2_142021_550000001.png At present this can be shown on the trackpad by ...

... topic: 2654 Simple printed output posted: 22 Mar 2015 01:45 from: Rob Manchester Hi Martin, Would it be possible sometime in the future to have a 'Simple Mode' track plan output option? This would output the track plan( or a grouped set of templates) with purely plain timbers, rails( with joints) and nothing else preferably in black and white. I know you can turn options off for the grid, timber numbers etc but just a single click on the Output menu to get this would be great. I just spent a good while trying to figure out how to turn the page titles and other text off on a print out. The danger is, of course, that if you do it somebody will want options so you can add options back in. Hope you are enjoying the weekend. First outdoor lunch in the garden today. ... topic: 3314 Printing problem with background shapes posted: 6 Aug 2018 12:16 from: wcampbell23 Hi everyone I am looking for help with a problem that has recently appeared with printing background shapes. I usually import a jpg file containing the baseboard outlines for a project as a background shape and print this with the track templates. Recently the background shapes have not been printing. I have not consciously changed any of the settings I normally use. Can anyone suggest what I may have inadvertently changed? Thanks. Bill Campbell. posted: 6 Aug 2018 12:44 from: Martin Wynne Hi Bill, Does it show on the screen? In order to print background picture shapes, you need to select this option on the pages dialog: 2_060731_230000000.png But it can be problematic on some printers/systems because of the very large degree of magnification required. If the image contains only the baseboard outlines, using a picture shape is a bit of an overkill. You can create rectangular outlines using the background> add a quick baseboard outline> other sizes ...

... "? I will re-work that bit of code. regards, Martin. posted: 22 May 2011 10:40 from: Paul Boyd Hi Martin Hi Paul, Whenever you save a .box file, or when Templot makes its own backups across sessions, the control template is now "tacked on" to the .box file too, and restored as the control template when you reload the file. That's OK (and really useful!), but at some point (in Quick mode) the user will want to print the plan... The basic tenet of Quick mode is that Templot always stores the templates for you. The default option is to not print the control template so it'll need to be manually stored before printing with either Ctrl-V or Insert. I know there's an option to choose to print the control template but this is then something else that a new user will have to find out. Perhaps the simple answer there is to change the default for Quick mode to print the control template? Cheers posted: 22 ...

... topic: 1525 Large format Printers for Templot output posted: 3 Jun 2011 22:19 from: Rob Manchester Hello, I would be interested to hear of peoples choices for large format printing of Templot output. I am generally thinking of those devices that print on 24 or 36 inch wide paper rolls. Does anybody have any 'best buys' in this area? What about the running costs?- the technology will be mostly inkjet where the ink tanks are small but I guess there isn't much actual ink laid down especially with things like timber infill turned off. My last involvment with wide-format roll printing was with the old Benson plotters which I am sure some of you weill remember. We also had lots of early HP plotters at work. Most of these used modified fibre tip or roller ball pens to do the 'printing', you never did know when the ink was about to run out...it usually did half way through an important job! Has anyone used this printer for a Templot track plan? Whilst I am familiar with all the photographic papers available for this printer I would obviously like to use the cheapest Roll Paper (13" wide) for the track plan to keep the cost down but also to minimise the number of pieces of paper I need to join together. Failing that would normal A3 "photocopy paper" be ok. ... use a hybrid form of construction, with most timbers in say wood or plastic, and a few interspersed in copper-clad for soldering. This is a popular form of construction used outside the UK for flat-bottom track. It's helpful to mark the appropriate timbers at the design stage, and I've been asked for this option on the templates. Bear in mind that once the timbers have been stuck on the template, you can't see the colours. So this option is primarily for use when actually sticking them on. Print a second template for reference if you need to see the colours afterwards. I have a hunch this will turn out to be another one of those functions which we didn't know we needed until we tried it. For example bonus timbers could be shoved to be, say, OLE masts, and appear in electric blue. Which then move with the template as it is curved or adjusted. I have implemented this as part of the shove timbers function. Coloured timbers are regarded as having been "shoved" even if their ...

I then do the print setup, load an existing calibration file, maybe move the page origin and print the background template I want. When I close Templot, I'm given the warning that one or more templates in the storage box have not been saved in a named data file. Except I haven't changed any templates, not even the control! It seems to be the act of bringing up the print dialogue that does this, as I get the same message if I then cancel printing and close Templot. Whenever I restart Templot it asks to restore my last templates which I say yes to. So far all is well with the world. However, I now decide to print the templates.
