But I often used the previous centre-line start as a quick way to identify the hand of a template in track plans when zoomed out. 2. So I have extended the drive slot marker on the switch handing side instead. The marker is purely symbolic, its dimensions do not have any meaning. This will also be a convenient handing marker when switches are used as partial templates in slips and tandems, etc. 3. There is a new guide mark in the turnout-road exit, at a new position called internally THDP. It is always 9ft* from the blunt nose. Its sole purpose is in the make diamond-crossing at intersection function to mark the default diagonal-road exit boundary, so I haven't given it a specific peg position for any other use. I have put the templates over the map as usual and after a little 'fettling' what has pleasantly surprised me is how various key trackwork matches up *exactly* between Templot and the reference photos. For example, 7 years after I started this I have now found the Whitby station tandem is a B6.75/C9R- The partial templates together even provides the 'extra' timber that I can see in the photos. Considering the map I am using is no newer than 1914 and has been copied then digitized then imported into Templot, it's quite incredible really. The intention is to create 3D printed track bases to help with track building. That might be any or all of: 1. fully-chaired track bases into which rail is threaded. 2. mostly-chaired track bases which have some chairs missing, to be glued on during construction. That makes construction a lot easier, especially for slips and tandems, etc. 3. track bases which have only the inner half of each chair on them, to align and gauge the rails. The outer half to be glued on after the rail is in place. That avoids threading rail into chairs and makes construction very much easier. My hunch is that could be basis of a workable track-building system. 4. track bases without chairs which have instead a slot or pip or some other means to locate separate chairs. This means that in the case of partial templates not having both stock rails present, for example the components of a tandem turnout, it is not possible for them to appear in diagram mode. There are several ways of working round this restriction: 1. temporarily overlay plain track templates over the partial templates. These can be kept in a separate .box file, and added to the track plan whenever it is desired to create diagram-mode output. or, 2. change to detail mode instead. The appearance can be changed using the various options in the output menu. 3. in detail mode, use the thick centre-lines ...
