I read that you normally aim for 1/3 to half way through the material. You also need to support the material flat, but on some waste material that it does not matter if the laser cuts into it. Not metal, as that reflects the laser light and could lead to secondary burns. Corrugated cardboard might work well? One advantage of laser cut sleepers is that they can all be tied together by small tabs, so you do not have the problem with the slide chair sleepers dropping off the ...

It is a very readable illustrated history of the former LSWR Permanent Way Works at Redbridge. It contains maps and lots of pictures inside the works, and interesting details about the manufacturing processes and trackwork developments over the years until closure of the works in 1988. The book was published in 1989 to mark the closure. There are some pictures of different chairs and other trackwork details, but generally as an aid to modelling it probably doesn't add much to what you already know. Much of it ...

Also, always set the lowest print quality available on modern printers. 300dpi is quite adequate for track templates. If you try to print the same at 1200dpi (photo quality), you need 16 times as much memory for the process. Not just a bit more, 16 times as much. Then on the storage box menus click the edit> box title... menu item. See the screen-shot below. A dialog then appears on which you can change the title to whatever you want. Are you sure you want to do that? With modern RTR models the running quality will be very rough. If the problem is that you have been using the 00-DOGAF finescale settings, and want to avoid resetting wheel back-to-backs, it would be better to change to 00-SF or 00-BF standards. Similarly, for the main point work in the passenger and goods area, I was considering A4 or A5 turnouts as it will all be low speed terminal station operation and I am quite space constrained. Would you think this is viable for EM gauge or should I think again before I start designing and constructing trackwork? I didn't know how important the turnout positions are with respect to baseboard frames, so I kept the switches in the same place within about a millimetre. I changed it all from 00-BF to 00-SF at the same time. It has ended up with the outer turnout as C-9.25 and the inner turnout as B-10, both with curviform V-crossings. Then the angles in the diamond from left to right are: V 6.75 K 7.29 K 7.29 V 7.99 I added the slip roads and did some timber shoving -- it looks ok.
