... slightly, or there is a slight gap between them, at the boundary. So shortening or extending the transition template can be done quite quickly, often quicker than a lot of confusing questions from Templot asking which end of which original template should be used. I will have another go at this one day, but I know from past experience that every single possible case has to be allowed for (as above). Otherwise it is a cast iron certainty that someone somewhere will get in a terrible muddle. In my own development version of Templot there are quite a lot of useful extra functions like this, but I dare not release them because they are not sufficiently robust against user error. I had the irregular diamond functions in use for several years before I was able to release them in Templot2. regards, Martin. ... topic: 2398 Printing The Background Tracks posted: 5 Feb 2014 11:05 from: Clive Essery Hello guys, this is my first post on this forum. I decided to try and produce my plan on my own without bothering you guys with stupid beginners questions but have now hit an impasse. My background is that I am retired after 40 years of software development, which of course includes some CAD work. I thought I would eventually manage to produce something. Well I have succeeded in that area but I see that I am going to get a rollicking like Andrew- having built my track plan on an existing (but modified) map without practicing all of the features first. I guess I used only the basics of Templot and because I landed up doing a lot of rework, I have probably not done it the most efficient way. I couldn't for example get the move group to work properly so landed up moving my goods yard a template at a time many times as I moved it around the design. The issue that I ...

Unfortunately my current stocks of 00-sf Gauges consist of one pair of 16.2mm 3-Point Gauges only; I'm currently reviewing the supply of Gauges and it is intended (if all goes well) to hand over the responsibility for the supply of the Gauges to another party in the near future- hence the very low stocks. This does unfortunately mean a glitch in the current stock availability, but hopefully this won't be for too long. I will keep everyone posted on developments as soon as I know more. The image data is saved in PNG format so I could have used PNG1, PNG2 -- but that looks a bit like an error and liable to be "corrected" to .png by the unknowing. I did an exhaustive search of the web to avoid conflicts with other software before deciding on the range SK0 to SK9 for the new file formats in Templot2 (SK=sketchboard). Also, at one stage during TDV development I was using the arcane HCK image format -- which saves and loads much faster than PNG and is native to the sketchboard engine. It is a very readable illustrated history of the former LSWR Permanent Way Works at Redbridge. It contains maps and lots of pictures inside the works, and interesting details about the manufacturing processes and trackwork developments over the years until closure of the works in 1988. The book was published in 1989 to mark the closure. There are some pictures of different chairs and other trackwork details, but generally as an aid to modelling it probably doesn't add much to what you already know. Much of it relates to the later years and flat-bottom track. However if a copy is to be had for only £2.80 I would snap it up just for the background interest. That's 17 years ago now, and it soon became clear that not only did I have to explain the software, but also the basics of building model track. Not something I ever expected or wanted to do. I have written the same stuff over and over again so many times now, that I'm weary of it. I'm happy to go on developing the Templot software and explaining it, it still interests me and I'm coding at present. But not trackbuilding methods and techniques. I spent 10 years doing that commercially, but it was a long time ago now -- over 40 years since I started. Hundreds of other modellers are building track and competent to explain it, so over to someone else.
