... topic: 2386 Printing out a Track Plan posted: 22 Jan 2014 17:33 from: Paul Scott Now that I have completed my track plan for a large layout some 14.5 x 4.5 metres in size I would like to get it printed out full size on rolls of paper using a local printer. I took the whole computer down to the printer and showed him the program and plan to print. He decided to make a PDF so he could export it to his large format Ink Jet Printer using the OUTPUT- EXPORT A FILE (PDF DXF etc.)- Export a File box and Create PDF He followed the instructions but was unable to get Templot to produce a PDF it said it was doing it and put the PDF Ikon on the desktop as requested but when we opened the file it was a blank page. Could anyone give us some guidance on what we are doing wrong or if we are going about it in the right way. posted: 22 Jan 2014 18:04 from: Stephen Freeman Hi, I seem to ...

I usually have to check the plan hasn't got any overlapping sleepers etc. 1509_251504_110000000.jpg I then split the formation up into track panels to fit my wood and ensuring the grain is running vertically with the sleepers as much as possible. 1509_251505_330000000.png A track panel fresh off the laser. 1509_251509_560000000.jpg The formation with panels removed. Ideally laid over the templot print to help with the positioning of the track etc. Expert track builders tell me they can pick it up from here and know how to lay the track without the need of the print out. Each to their own. 1509_251507_180000000.jpg I plan to supply chairs with moulded in positioning pins that will fit in to lasercut holes correctly added to the sleepers. This will reduce significantly the need for track gauges. I hope you like. Attachment: attach_3103_3709_Templot_DXF.jpeg 81 Last edited on 25 Jun 2020 20:51 by PHP posted: 25 ...

For use with cosmetic plastic chairs the rivets need to be exactly under the rail centre, so you may find that you need to take the corners off the rivets with a Dremel disc to get the chairs to fit snug. But the best solution is to drill or punch your own holes in the right place. There is a trick you can use in Templot to help. If Templot is set to print the rail centre-lines instead of the rail edges, you get the rivet positions for riveted plywood construction, where the rail centres cross the timber centres, like this: rivet_centres.png This shows a crossover in EM. One turnout has the more usual style of rail detail for comparison. Click the generator> generator settings> rails> rail centre-lines only menu option, then rebuild the required templates as a group (or all of them), before printing them. I say paper, but I actually use 250gsm card- look for "250gsm Silky Smooth Thick White Card" on eBay (no connection to the seller, "activepaper"). This stuff is much cheaper than A2 Bristol Board (if you can actually find it in stock anywhere in that size) but has a shiny surface. This means that the ink smudges quite easily even when printed in draft mode and left for 24hrs, but to solve that I varnished it with a polyurethane varnish which both protects the ink and the paper when liquids start being sloshed all over it in the frenzy of track building! Early into the video a mouse action is used described as F3/F4 plain-track length. The Templot Function Key Chart I have printed out makes no mention of multiple mouse actions of this nature.
