... quiet on the Templot Club front- I was not aware of the problem with Demon. Demon's filtering has been very good at dealing with "genuine" spam and so until now I have been very pleased with it. I have not encountered any problems recently with direct emails from Yahoo groups. Very occasionally something triggers the bouncing mechanism but I do not see this as a major problem. I will contact Demon and express my concern that legitimate messages are being intercepted by their filtering service but unfortunately I do not think Demon's current customer service is what it used to be. On the very few occasions since the days of the tenner a month dialup when I have needed to contact Demon the service has been very good- until one Sunday earlier this year when a problem was reported and "not" dealt with by the call centre. I suppose that to make some impact on situations like this, everyone concerned has to complain so that Demon (or any other ISP) realises that their service is not satisfactory. ... The focus of my attention is North British track for a design involving a minimum of 5 chains curvature on the pointwork. Since these have to be fitted to a series of reverse curves, some fairly long leads are required, hence I have rather standardised on 1:10 crossings and 12' straight heel switches, save for the points with contraflexure, for which I combine the standard 12' switch with a 1:7 crossing. This degree of standardisation makes it possible to concentrate on getting just two templates exactly right with custom switch, interleaved sleepering and the pronounced flare on the check rails that was a characteristic of North British crossings. With these saved as library templates, insertion of a new turnout into the scheme, correct in all particulars, is the work of a moment. Timber shoving, which would otherwise take up much time in order to set up the interleaving, is enormously reduced. posted: 24 May 2015 20:08 from: dave turner Thanks Martin. This allows you to zoom in over it without losing precision, and link Templot track to individual DXF entities. So a question: are you running a 64-bit version of 3rd PlanIt, or a 32-bit version? The reason for asking is that the DXF export is available only in the 32-bit version (for reasons I don't understand). There is a note about this on Randy's customer page. ... 11 from: Martin Wynne Hi John, I made the decision not to include narrow-gauges in the pre-sets. Partly because there are so many variants that they would completely swamp the list -- it is far too long already. But also because the timbering settings, rail-widths, etc., are not included in the gauge/scale settings. So simply changing the gauge and scale isn't sufficient if you still have 8ft-6in sleepers and 12" wide crossing timbers. The solution is to share customized template files with other users, one of the primary purposes of this Templot Club forum. For 0-16.5 templates there are already some 0-16.5 template files which you can download from here: topic 28 and matching Peco: topic 2526 Just download the files and print the templates. ... There are two likely reasons for selecting the fixed at... option for the crossing entry straight on regular-type V-crossings instead of the usual auto-fit option: 1. you are shortening this particular turnout to get a better fit to the available space, without wanting to change the switch size or crossing angle. In this case you would leave the boxes unticked, so that the setting reverts to auto-fit on subsequent templates. Or 2. you are matching a specific prototype drawing to produce a custom template. In this case you would probably want to tick the boxes, so that the setting is retained in all your subsequent templates. In the meantime in all existing versions of Templot, without those boxes available, you should know that the effective behaviour is: as if the retain on mint box is unticked -- minting a new template always reverts to auto-fit, and as if the retain on tools:make box is ticked -- the fixed at... option is retained until you change it ...

It represents a typical curved switch of no specific prototype. But as a quick alternative to a full construction using partial templates I think it will be very useful. edit: I have now taken this a bit further, and added an option to replace the K-crossing timbering with the timber spacings and rail joint positions from any switch you choose (or those for a custom switch). This works best if you match the K-crossing angle with the switch deflection angle. For example in this case I selected a GWR 10ft curved switch, and set the K-crossing angle to 1:37 to match: 2_292120_090000000.png This doesn't change any of the rail alignments, so it is still not a proper prototypical switch. And create combined custom items. For example 6 rods side-by-side could be created as a combined item and then stretched to any length. If you created say a compensator in Visio, you could import it as a metafile or bitmap image. If you create bitmaps and give them a special file name, the sketchboard will scale them automatically for you.
