... topic: 3833 Rail curve in the middle of straight diamonds posted: 9 Dec 2020 17:26 from: Julian Roberts Hi Martin I believe it was just a few years ago, say within the last five, that you brought in the three marks on the curve of the wing/knuckle rail at the knuckle on an ordinary turnout. Yet not so many years ago I was told elsewhere that the knuckle bend should be as crisp as possible, aided with a nick filed on the other side of the rail. My understanding of this area has developed, maybe that holds true for others too. I imagine the consensus would be that the model will work better (as well as look better) by following the prototype practice- or at least, there is no need to follow old modelling myths. Now I'm making a diamond and wonder about a similar issue at the centre of it, where the stock rail and check rail curve to form the angle of the obtuse crossing. It seems that on the prototype these rails curved quite gently ...

My attentions are now on producing a small layout (12' x 16") using templot. I've played around a bit with templates and looked at a few of the tutorial videos but i've come a bit stuck with one (of many i'm sure) problem. I have two offset parallel straight sections separated by about 12". I want to join these with an s bend to form a single track and then add some turnouts along the length. My problem is joining the two sections with the s bend while maintaining the parallel straight section at the start and end of the track. I've tried transition curves (easement from straight) etc. but i always end up with a curve at the end or the straights not being parallel. I'm sure there's a simple solution, but i'm still trying to get my head around all the options and get lost so any pointers would ...

I'm adding formatted text capability to the sketchboard and I would be grateful for a few test RTF files saved from the current version of Word. Files from Word seem to vary in format so much that it is a minefield to keep tabs on. If you can help, please attach here a short sample file from Word saved in RTF format (not doc) and containing some formatted text, different fonts and colours, tables, paragraph indents, with and without coloured backgrounds, etc. I can then test how well it will import onto the sketchboard. This will make it easier to add attractive notes and titles to the sketchboard when used for display; to add locking tables for signal box diagrams; etc. The existing text items are a bit limited in this regard. But please don't include pictures in the file ...

It's the same as the first ever release version, but doesn't need a release code. Being a free demo for what was then a paid-for product, it won't save files or print templates (other than a demo print). It's the original exe file, not recompiled. Surprisingly it runs ok on Windows 10, with a few obvious glitches. Most of the windows need dragging a bit larger. But it's painful to use, you won't want to do much with it. At start-up for some reason it displays a blank panel. Click the small dotted rectangle. If there is any interest, I will try to get a slightly later version recompiled and posted. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE everyone, don't share this with anyone. It's over 20 years old! It is NOT a demo of the current Templot2 program! cheers, Martin ...

So I dug out the few Peco O turnouts I had tucked away, and that's what they give you. I think you need to space them so that you get a 6' way; the most obvious way is to stick a bit of plain track between the leading turnout and each of the other two; this will also enable you to avoid sleeper overlaps. That will reduce the effective size of the loops though. posted: 31 Mar 2015 08:47 from: roythebus If you've got room, move the point fan left and replace the ...

If necessary the bulk of the metal can be quickly removed with a coarse file or metal shears before finishing on the sander. The end result is an accurately aligned vee comprised of solid rail at the nose. All that then remains is to fettle the running edges at the tip and blunt back the nose. It's a good idea to take a few thou off the top of the nose so that it dips down slightly below the wing rails.
