Many thanks to all who have purchased Gauges from me in the past- I hope they've proved useful. I've had some fun with the project over the last few years and I'm happy to pass on the task of Gauge supply to Pete at C&L, happy in the knowledge that they will be in safe hands and continue to be available for the foreseeable future. And finally, I would like to express my particular thanks to Martin Wynne, for not only introducing us to the advantages of 00-sf in the first place, but also with help and advice regarding the design of the Gauges and subsequent expert advice over the last few years (since late 2006 I believe ...

These will be cut back to the rail sides towards the end of the build process and stuck in place 982_190311_460000000.jpg I make the slide rails in one piece and notch the rail joins, then add etched fishplates. This is because I want maximum flexibility of the blades for ease of movement. I only put one solder joint in the centre for the same reason On double slips the tiebar movement is very stiff on this method. I have made these rails in 3 pieces soldering cast metal fishplates to the centre rail only, this makes for a very free movement. 982_190320_270000000.jpg Two of the crossing rails ...

Hi Gordon, This applies to dozens of places in Templot. It's a damn nuisance. Unfortunately it is hours of programming work to create full property-sheet dialogs, compared with a few minutes to create menu items. One day I will get Templot finished... Also when originally coding Templot for Windows95, the bog-standard self-cancelling menus consumed far less system resources than full dialogs. Even so, Templot hogged practically the whole of Windows95 when running. That's no longer a problem in current Windows versions, but Templot is very old code in places. p.s. don't muddle up the trackbed edges with dummy templates on the adjacent track centre-line. ... need to set a page size smaller than the printable area. I suggested allowing 20mm for the trim margins in my previous reply. Generally, if you will be trimming and fitting multiple pages to the red margin lines, it is better to tick the box and set a convenient size between the trim margins, usually matched to the grid lines. If you are printing a large single page, the red trim margins won't be used, so you can untick the box and set almost the full printable area. Always allow a few mm inside though -- if you set the absolute maximum printable size the printer may object (because of rounding effects). N.B. Check the printable area for the printer, it's not usually the full paper size. I doubt that an A0 printer can print 841mm width. That's the full width of A0 paper. But roll paper is usually 36 inches wide (914mm), so A0 sizes are easily accommodated. You need to get the available printable width from the print shop. regards, Martin. posted: ...

I used cork on top of ply on my one-time American HO layout and found it quite loud, although I was using PVA and it's possible a more flexible glue would have been quieter. Currently I'm using MDF on a framework of 6mm 4" deep ply sides and 12mm ends, with a few 6mm cross-pieces, just tacked and glued around the edges, with the track laid directly on the MDF, using matte medium to fix track and ballast. It's possible that the framework I'm using means the MDF acts like a drum. I've had a look at Woodland scenics track underlay but reckon it's not firm enough for handlaid track.
