... topic: 1650 TDV feedback posted: 10 Oct 2011 16:11 from: leo_sandstrom Hi This is a bit overdue but I feel that its finally time for me to provide some feedback. Ill start by saying that I have finally scaled the initial learning cliff, and I now have some basic understanding of how the program works. But to be honest I have not delved to deep into advanced track templates yet due to a lack of time. When I start the normal Templot as a new user I was faced with a program panel. Pressing the X in the top hand corner closes the program, quess what the first thing I did, I closed Templot because I wanted to get rid of the program panel. For a Windows user it makes no sense to press the workpad button when you start the program. Look at 95% of the office programs, you start with a blank screen and possibly some tooltip help and then you start working. (or an empty template) A great example is Solidworks where you start with a ribbon ...

... topic: 2298 New templates from C&L in 00, EM and P4 posted: 28 Aug 2013 10:04 from: Martin Wynne C&L have finally released a huge new range of printed templates, created by Len Newman: http://www.finescale.org.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=631 These are excellent REA bullhead template drawings with full chair detail. If you scan these templates (private use only) and load them into Templot as picture shapes, you can overlay the Templot equivalents and create fully chaired versions of your Templot track plans. (For curved turnouts, use the image wrapping function in the background shapes to curve the scanned image to match.) Here I have done that with the P4 B-8 template and overlaid the equivalent Templot template. To create that in Templot, change to a generic-type V-crossing and convert RAM to CLM crossing angles. I'm hoping these few example screenshots fall within fair dealing for copyright. These templates represent years of work by Len Newman - ...

Will using one of the already extant 7mm gauges reduced from 32mm work? Hi Phil, The answer is yes. For sharp narrow-gauge curves I would suggest starting from 0-MF 31.5mm rather than 0-SF 31.2mm. So that means reducing everything by the difference (31.5- 21)= 10.5mm reduction. So back-to-back for Slaters wheels is 29.2- 10.5= 18.7mm. For other wheels ...

... yet studied it in detail, but two points to make initially -- Why did you set 8ft way as the track centres (52.67mm)? It's not wrong, but you need to have a reason. I think the majority of scissors crossovers would be at the standard 6ft way spacing. That makes the construction clearances rather tight, but on the other hand widening the spacing affects the surrounding track plan. You need a wider spacing of course on sharply curved tracks for vehicle clearance, but this one is only down to 10 chains radius and the standard spacing would be sufficient (that's over 8ft radius in P4). Your method of creating the initial outline produces a non-symmetrical scissors. Again it's not wrong, but I think the majority of scissors crossovers would be symmetrical unless there is an obvious need otherwise. To be symmetrical the CTRL-5 TXP position on all 4 turnouts needs to be coincident at the centre of the diamond. I've written before about creating a scissors crossover, most recently in this topic: Bristol Temple Meads. ...

Still needs a good tidy up and a session of timber nudging, along with adding the slip roads to the diamond for the yard (Which I've already completed on an older version of the plan). The layout itself is a small parcels depot and TMD based loosely in the location of Blackwell road in Carlisle and primarily serving the Cumbrian Coast Line circa 1974/5. Bottom most track is just a loop with holding sidings, the track above it exits to the hidden storage. The first point (C10) serves the TMD which features a two road shed, refueling road/ head-shunt and a siding (A7) for a couple of TTA wagons of diesel.
