If you are designing a new project for the same baseboards or railway room as before, you can reload the relevant .bgs background shapes file with these details. Loading and saving background shapes is entirely independent of the track data files. When you get more experienced with Templot you may want to store and save some of your templates as library templates. This makes it a bit easier to re-use them in later projects, including multiple designs of custom switches, plain track spacings, and so on. *copy to current in version 0.74.b (same function, just a different name). regards, Martin. posted: 22 Jul 2010 07:52 from: Jerry Thank you both Alan and Martin, I had already worked through Alan's 'Getting Started' mini-tutorial on my first day, several times, that's possibly the reason I made the conceptual leap into the working of this briliant system. Some data for prototype industrial turnouts is at: http://templot.com/martweb/templot_forum.htm#industrial The smallest size (1 :2) has a radius of 12.192 metres= 40 feet= 160mm in 4mm/ft scale= 6.3" radius. An exact replica requires a 6ft custom switch. However, you can get very close using the pre-set 1:24 short model switch in Templot. Set a curviform crossing, and adjust the crossing angle with F5 or F9 until you get 1:2 (for 6.4" radius) or 1:1.94 (for 6" radius). Set equalized-incremental timbering: 2_131455_370000000.png Above is for bullhead rail -- in practice such turnouts would almost certainly be light FB rail. Set head and foot. Generally it is then better not to use the REA switches, but change to older pattern loose-heel switches. For example using a 9ft straight switch instead of an "A" switch, or a 12ft straight switch instead of a "B". There is a bigger range of options in the GWR-pattern loose-heel switches. I wondered if you were aware that Templot incorporates Flat bottomed switches in the list under the Real& Template> Switch settings menus. Scroll down the list and you will find both semi curved and curved Flat bottom switches. Selecting one of these will automatically produce the correct geometry for the chosen crossing angle. If however, you are after one of the modern transition curved turnouts, then that is a custom job I'm afraid. You do not mention your scale but if you are working in 4mm/ft scale you may find this site useful http://colincraig4mm.co.uk/ as he sells parts for flat bottomed track and there are links to sites with prototye information. This means that if you build half-track and curve it, the spacing won't match the default templates exactly. Provided you build the outer rail first, your track will be correct*, the template will be slightly out. *edit: but see my next message. Those for whom this discrepancy matters can adjust the sleeper spacings by creating a set of custom plain track settings for a suitable range of radii, and use the appropriate setting as required.
