... own design. I'm happy to use switched crossings in a slip if it will make them easier to build. The bit I'm struggling with is the equal or unequal angles. Surely by definition an irregular crossing will have different angles. I thought that is why they are 'irregular'. Clearly I was wrong. Not the end of the world though, as nothing has been laid as yet. I'm just going to have to look at the plan again to correct some issues. Shame really, as looking at the crossings on print by eye, they looked great. I happen to like large radius pointwork so always use C10's or larger in most applications. Will coming down to 1:7 crossings mean changing the turnouts as well? My gut feeling says yes, but I have to ask the question. ... : 7 Nov 2019 11:21 from: Martin Wynne I'm pleased to say that after several trips round the houses I've got something working which I think we can live with. It's a bit clunky -- several things which would have worked in Delphi don't seem to work in Lazarus. That might become clearer when I've spent a lot more time on Lazarus. But I think we have enough to provide the EMF exports (no WMF -- there are online converters if anyone wants the old WMF format), and the print-page previews. Whether it is enough to work in the Sketchboard remains to be seen. Because of licensing issues that will have to be in a separate helper exe anyway, at least for the present. It might even become a separate program in its own right TemplotSketch (closed-source). Likewise TemplotPDF perhaps, for the PDF export, which also relies on metafiles. cheers, Martin. posted: 10 Nov 2019 02:11 from: Martin Wynne The metafile export is now working in T3 quite well ...

... topic: 1441 Epson 1270 printer posted: 2 Apr 2011 11:23 from: Martin Wynne For many years I have had an Epson 1270 A3 photo printer. Over the years it has printed some superb A3 photos and Templot track plans. But it has always been temperamental -- reporting errors, occasionally stopping in mid-print, refusing to start, making funny noises. I obtained the best-quality printer cable I could find, and installed it on several different systems. Nothing made any difference. It always compared very unfavourably with my trusty 11-year-old HP 720C which has performed faultlessly always -- I can't remember a single error or problem with the 720C, it is still going strong and used daily. Earlier this week the 1270 was so bad that I finally lost temper with it, and it was on its way to the skip. Then I noticed on the back of it something which I had not noticed before (or forgotten) -- a USB socket. When I first obtained this printer USB was ...

... the sketchboard, and I'm dreading the task of writing the Help notes for it. At present the preferred method is to group by marker colour -- which unlike the clunky "remembered groups" function (due for the chop) is saved in the file. Just select the group and set a unique marker colour for it. Then when you want to recreate the group, group> group select> select by marker colour... menu item. Marker colours apply only to the pad, they are not used for printing (for printing in different colours use mapping colours). The advantage of this method is that it is self-indicating on the pad, it doesn't need any other indication of which templates are in which group. You retain access to the individual templates, and you can move them into or out of the group just by changing their marker colour and then reselecting the group. In effect the colour becomes a visible "tag". Don't forget also that you can keep your groups each in its own file (save ...

This approach would hopefully avoid my needing to spend considerable time learning about the niceties of Templot, instead I could get on with layout construction etc before moving on to track building. I am now at the stage where I need to practice track building (having no experience in this area to date) ready for a start on the real trackwork for TG. ... the way and some time ago tried it out. I am intending to use Templot to design trackwork for an N gauge set up, so measuring my Peco Code 80 track with my somewhat dodgy Digital Vernier Caliper I came to the conclusion that the rail foot width is 1.3mm and the rail head .6mm. These measurements may or may not be precisely accurate but this does not affect my findings. Using Martin's suggestion to use the real> rails> rail section data menu item I entered the rail head as s1.3mm. When I printed out the test template not surprisingly the rails were 1.3mm wide and the gauge was 9mm between the inside edges. So I came to the conclusion that this was not the way to go because aligning the Peco rail with either edge or centering on those printed could not possibly give me a 9mm gap between the running faces of the rails. I hasten to point out that I am not an engineer nor do I have a background in this type of work so I may be completely off the track but my conclusion was that ...

Next I grip both of the rails in a smooth-jawed vice (so that the point of the vee is sticking upwards clear of the jaws) and adjust them until they are exactly aligned at the correct angle (easily achieved by using a cut-out from a spare print of the template) and are both "vertical" in terms of the rail center line and the relative "level" of the rail surfaces. Under magnification, it may be 30lbs/yard but more probably 80lbs/yard, although even this seems light. Does 80lbs/yard seem reasonable or does anyone have any better idea what it might actually be?
