I'm trying to replicate the 1 in 10 scissor from the NERA book. It describes four C10s and from the overall length I have discovered these have no entry straight at all. The basics have been produced by taking a C10 and forming a crossover and then doing the same again for the other angle. So far so good. The book shows the 'centre' Vs as 1:6 and the Ks as 1:5. I have tried every combination I can think of with locating pegs and the notch and then snaking through, including putting the notch in the dead centre, on the intersections between turnout rails etc, even trying as both IR and IC diamonds, but nothing seems to work. Even as an experiment, I used four diamond 1:10 just to make sure it wasn't something odd with the curve of the turnout; using ...

... yet studied it in detail, but two points to make initially -- Why did you set 8ft way as the track centres (52.67mm)? It's not wrong, but you need to have a reason. I think the majority of scissors crossovers would be at the standard 6ft way spacing. That makes the construction clearances rather tight, but on the other hand widening the spacing affects the surrounding track plan. You need a wider spacing of course on sharply curved tracks for vehicle clearance, but this one is only down to 10 chains radius and the standard spacing would be sufficient (that's over 8ft radius in P4). Your method of creating the initial outline produces a non-symmetrical scissors. Again it's not wrong, but I think the majority of scissors crossovers would be symmetrical unless there is an obvious need otherwise. To be symmetrical the CTRL-5 TXP position on all 4 turnouts needs to be coincident at the centre of the diamond. I've written before about creating a scissors crossover, most recently in this topic: Bristol Temple Meads. ...

Unfortunately this starts to push the turntable pit too far to the north-west, so that it almost encroaches into the bund which marked the western boundary of this part of the yard. Option 1 is to leave them as-is. Option 2 is to replace them with B8 turnouts which works, but neccesitates an S-curve on the carriage road to bring it out to the correct separation (to be honest, this may be required anyway- I gather it would require a 10' way as opposed to the 6' way?) Option 3 is to adjust the geometry with a more 'custom' layout. Option 3 is something that Martin W. suggested using contraflexed (! ?) turnouts to maintain the geometry and spacing, but it's way over my head.
