Passenger loops on single-track lines wouldn't normally have trap arrangements. Here for example is Rubery on the Halesowen Railway: RuberyStnfromDownHome.jpg© D J Norton. Image linked from this excellent site: http://www.photobydjnorton.com Cue a space for a catalogue of exceptions: Notice also in this pic the classic arrangement of yard access via a diamond crossing to ensure a trailing access into the yard instead of a facing connection. This is a very common arrangement, although often the the diamond would have a single slip added -- see the single-slip video. Not needed here because the diamond is so close to the end of the loop. regards, Martin. posted: 3 Dec 2014 23:03 from: Richard_Jones Hi Martin Many thanks- the old adage- I learn something new every day best wishes Richard posted: 4 Dec 2014 02:16 from: Dave Summers But shouldn't the facing goods yard ...

... the case of a turnout the transition applies along the main-road. The make transition link function can create a transition curve between any two templates, but only provided several conditions are met. These conditions are not arbitrary limitations imposed by Templot, they result from the mathematics of a clothoid curve (Euler's Spiral): 1. the templates must not be concentric (parallel). So for example it is not possible to create a transition between the inner and outer tracks in curved double track. Use a slew for that instead, or a simple link. 2. in a C-curve transition there must be a significant difference in radius between the two templates. Significant means more than a few mm. Otherwise you will get at best a wiggly transition curve, or at worst the infamous "matchsticks and broken glass" effect across the entire screen. (For S-curve transitions the radii can be equal.) This also means that it is not possible to create a transition curve between two straight templates. Only one of them can ...

... rail(s) for a slip, Templot omits the wing rail joint marks because they would be in the wrong place and conflict with the switch blades. There may or may not be some real rail joints there -- prototypes vary so Templot leaves it to you to put them where/if you want them when building it. For example on the GWR there is no joint, in a GWR slip the wing rail and switch stock rail are one piece of rail, with a joint close to the diamond point rail instead. In practice for 2-rail model wiring you need insulation gaps in the rails between the switch toe (tips) and the wing rail knuckle, so you must have a rail joint there whether you want it or not. If you are modelling 3-rail, clockwork, battery or live steam you can do it properly. The same thing happens to the K-crossing wing rail joints when you select timbering as model for the diamond point rails because the timber positions are then changed. A rail joint must ...

Thus they are an "interpretation" of the prototype. For exact precision, don't use a triangular tool, get some graduated gauges (see photo below). We often use sharper curves than the prototype, so as the radius sharpens below the point that we get 0.25mm widening we should stop using the triangular tool and instead use a tool of our gauge plus 0.25mm, the C&L P4 tool of+ 0.3 is the nearest equivalent. However, no-one will be able to see the widening, so the question is, how necessary is it to have prototypical gauge widening? – as wheels in 00, EM and P4 have a narrow back to back relative to the track. In P4 we have the best part of 0.2mm more clearance than the prototype, and the flangeways are widened by 0.1mm each side. Only S4 has ...

When adjusting the crossing angle on a partial template it is usually better in Templot2 to use F9 rather than F5. The default option on F9 is for infinite angle adjustment (instead of unit-angle stepping), and F9 doesn't change the size of the blanked-off switch. Many modern wheels are too narrow to work properly on this, hence the preference for 0-MF 31.5mm instead. 2. 0-XF which is 31mm gauge with 1.25mm flangeways. This is deprecated and does not work properly with any wheels other than Slaters on straight or very gently curved track. Not recommended. If the track you were modifying was built to 0-MF 31.5mm it would indeed appear to be under-gauge when tested with a 32mm roller gauge. You may also want to change to CLM angles, but since there is no way to get an exact scale lead length in EM, there is not much practical reason to do that. For the wing rail front, the first thing is to establish the dimension from the rail joint to the centre of timber "A". From the drawing (page 141 in the GWSG book) that is 97.5+ 3= 100.5 inches.
