... backward compatible right back to the first ever release of Templot. However, "compatible" means only that they can be reloaded and saved without error. There are several features introduced in the later versions which will either be ignored by the earlier versions, or drawn differently on the templates. The most significant and obvious difference is that half-diamond templates are not supported in 074b, and if reloaded in 074b from 091c files will be drawn as truncated turnouts. To create a half-diamond template in 074b you create a custom switch having the same deflection angle as the V-crossing. That's a lot of work, compared with just a couple of clicks in 091c to create a half-diamond. So it's not a good idea to swap back and forth between versions if you are working on an actual finished track plan. You can always move forward to a later version, but going back to an earlier version may spoil your plan. Templot will warn you if any of the templates in a reloaded file are from an earlier or later ...

I have no completed the re-work and have have included the plane here for others information. The latest plan bears more that a passing resemblence to Swanage (albeit shorted and the goods yard compressed) I moved the engine shed from the original Swanage plan, since it did not look right on my compressed layout. I do realise the headshunt is far too short, however due to space restrictions the plan is to continue the headhsunt "offstage" into the fiddle yard. "Minting" is intended to return your template to a "generic" design for your chosen company prototype, removing any changes likely to be specific to a single template. For example any timber shoving is reset, but not the flare length on the wing and check rails which is likely to be constant across all crossings for that company. In practice deciding what should or shouldn't be minted is not easy. I suspect many users of customized templates don't ever use the minting process. I'm minded to change minting to the more specific case of returning the design entirely to the default REA bullhead settings? Which would mean disabling it if the switch is not currently set to an REA bullhead size, including disabling it for all FB, GWR and straight switch options. But they are far more useful than that: 2. Adjusting the gaunt offset changes the radius through the turnout side of a curviform V-crossing without changing the crossing angle. This makes a gaunt turnout extremely useful as a partial template in complex formations. At present the only way to change that radius is by messing about with an invisible custom switch, which is tedious and non-intuitive. The mouse action above modifies the turnout radius smoothly and visibly. Whether users will be able to find it, with the strange name "adjust gaunt offset", is a different matter -- hence the need for a keyboard shortcut (SHIFT+ F12). 3. The rails don't actually follow this curve exactly because of the effect of the switch deflection angle, and the different types of V-crossing. ... there? And how do I get rid of it? Hi Richard, As Jim suggests, the most likely explanation for a timber so far outside the template boundary is that it has been shoved there. To remove it, start the shove timbers function -- real> shove timbers menu item. Then click on the number of this sleeper (not the sleeper itself). The sleeper will turn red. Then click the restore timber button. Hide the shove timbers dialog. Another possible reason is that you are using a custom plain track setting with some significant error in the sleeper spacings. However, I think in that case you would have noticed other anomalies and strange effects much sooner. Your .box file upload seems to have failed. If you try again to upload your file, we can say for sure where this sleeper has come from. The option to shove timbers outside the template boundary allows some useful effects -- you can use shoved timbers to represent trackside structures which will then move with the template, like this: shoved_structures.png These rectangles ...
