... which can be applied in Templot, similar to the effect in older versions of Windows (ME, 98SE and older). (This problem may not apply to all graphics cards.) Because we like to zoom in much closer over scanned backgrounds than is normally the case when viewing images, I now recommend that you stay with full-colour images for picture shapes, unless: a) your system is older or slower (Windows ME or earlier), or b) you have a monochrome laser printer and want to print the image as part of the printed templates. Not all such printers will convert the colour image to monochrome. You could if you wish save two separate BMP files from the scanner and swap to the monochrome version in the picture shape just before printing. Otherwise it is better to use a full colour (24/32 bit) BMP image for picture shapes. However, I'm not sure that I updated this advice in the program Help notes, so I must go and do it. regards, Martin. posted: ...

One small problem that I do have is that when I use the printer in Templot, windows seems to grab the printer and refuse to let go. The only way I can get the printer to work again on the Mac side is to reboot the computer. Jim. posted: 27 May 2010 09:40 from: Martin Wynne Hi Ken, I agree with Jim -- start with the diamond. For a diamond-crossing to line up correctly it is essential that the two V-crossings are exactly the correct distance* apart. So it's best to start by installing the two vees. If you print a rails-only copy of the template on tracing paper**, you can lay it on the rail tops to check the vee positions and alignment before going any further. If you print some extra copies of the template on thin card or 160gsm paper, you can cut them out along the rail edges with a craft knife and try them against the rails in various positions to check alignments as you build up the diamond-crossing. *this means using the correct template for the track gauge. One function that has been missed out is the use of scans. But it is replaced by the photos function. Simply take a photo with the built in camera, use hold pinch-zoom to correct any perspective errors and pinch-zoom to get it to the same scale as you template. One final advantage is you don't need to print out. You can simply put a clear protective layer over your iPad, select the hold mode, and build on top of it. I have for sale rolls which you purchase at the same time as the App. Now there are a couple of disadvantages. You can't print out from iPlot. You have to transfer you file back to Templot and print out that way. Because transition curves are different, they are converted to many templates rather than the one that iPlot uses. Most of which we don't need when printing track construction templates. It is important that the data sent from Templot is printed exactly as supplied, and is not interfered with in any way by a printer driver trying to be too helpful. This is getting more and more difficult to ensure. For example, if your printer has a setting like this: 2_020814_450000000.png please make sure that it is unticked when printing templates from Templot. It is probably ticked by default. Make sure that everything is set to Normal Size, No Scaling, No Fitting, 100%, etc. Even if you have done a printer calibration, please check that the printer has not interfered with the data before using a template. Many users have more than one printer on their system. If you have only one printer, it is automatically the default printer. "Default" anything means the choice which is used in the absence of any instructions to the contrary. A PDF generator is a computer program which pretends to be a printer. But instead of printing the page on paper it creates it as a PDF file and saves it on your computer. You can then print it for real at a later date by using a program called a PDF reader. The two common ones are Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader. You can set a PDF generator to be your default printer if you wish, instead of your real printer.
