... of small layouts look rather pathetic, really Cheers posted: 6 Mar 2010 11:37 from: Dellboy Well spotted Paul I had not ventured into K crossing check rails but your comment instilled me to have a go and found it quite easy so the K-crossing check rails have now been shortened. Also I have revisited the scissors crossover in the Storage Turntable file and trimmed the overlength check rails I had left there. So thanks for that. Yes I have spent a fair amount of time on this, started to develope the design, initially on paper, then in Templot about a year ago. Unfortunately there are always other 'jobs' that need doing which seriously restrict the amount of time available. However time spent on planning is well worth it as it gives you the confidence in what you are going to build is going to work! In the longer term it can save considerable time (and fustration!). I appreciate your information regarding Peco Code 80 rail as my local model shop, which isn't really into model rail, doesn't stock it and I had no idea it existed hence my silly question re stripping it from Peco Flextrack. I will display my lack of knowledge and say that PCB means Printed Circuit Board to me and, as this is obviously not what you are talking about, translation would be much appreciated. It is already apparent that this field of endeavour, like all in modern times, has developed its own jargon and this I will have to learn first. Is there an acronym/ jargon glossary on the net? I haven't been able to google one up. I am behind the 8 ball a bit because I also do not have a good knowledge of prototype terminology relating to points/ turnouts/ switches etc etc. This I will rectify in the next day or so. I presume that the number involved is insufficient for injection moulding but rather too large for whitemetal casting. Anybody any ideas please? The UK S scale Association has just had new plastic chairs produced to replace our old white metal castings and I think we only required about 15000 on our first order to make the unit cost acceptable and to cover the complete development cost. The major cost was the tool itself and it will be available for further runs when the cost per chair will be considerably less. If you see Trevor Nunn with his "East Lynn" layout at an exhibition near you, have a chat with him. He masterminded the S scale project and Len Newman of Exactoscale did the actual tool making. Jim. In many ways it reminds me of WordPerfect as it was in the early 80's. It would be so much easier if you could set 'set and forget' parameters- I find you use more keystrokes setting up each time, than in designing. When you consider how long you have been developing Templot it is understandable that you now 'cannot see the wood for the trees', and go haring off in divers directions- many of which, like this current alteration, are irrelevant. But really it would reward you to back off for a few months and then look at it anew. Move towards Windows, not away from it and provide proper Help- printed text is the ideal.
