The worst was probably weight with Base 20, Base 4, Base 8, Base 16, Base 14, or maybe it was distance with Base 12, Base 3, Base 22, Base 10 and Base 8. I would like to make a right hand curved turnout. The outer radius would approximate 32" while the diverging radius would be 30". Is there a way to set each track's radius and then have Templot calculate the appropriate frog ratio, i.e. 1:10, 1:12, etc. for a defined scale and gauge? 2. Is there such a thing as an asymetrical wye turnout? As an example, a right hand diverging track at 32" radius and a left hand diverging radius of 30". If so, how would one create such a template using Templot? Thank you in advance for your help. Bill posted: 1 Nov 2009 03:28 from: Martin Wynne William Adkins wrote: 1. However, as I've yet to lay track and everything else is ramrod-straight B6's, I thought this might be an interesting opportunity to re-work them if they fit into the rest of the geometry. Option 1 is to leave them as-is. Option 2 is to replace them with B8 turnouts which works, but neccesitates an S-curve on the carriage road to bring it out to the correct separation (to be honest, this may be required anyway- I gather it would require a 10' way as opposed to the 6' way?) Option 3 is to adjust the geometry with a more 'custom' layout. Option 3 is something that Martin W. suggested using contraflexed (! ?) turnouts to maintain the geometry and spacing, but it's way over my head. I would be grateful for any advice or help- I have attached the plan with Option 2 in-situ, but as long as the top/rearmost track centre of formation A remains at roughly 15 to 16" and formation ...

As with H0, EM4 breaks the golden rule that exact-scale gauge needs exact-scale wheel-widths -- otherwise the wheels won't fit behind scale-width valve gear, inside scale-width splashers, axleboxes, etc. I think EM4 is a daft idea, but it's there as a pre-set for those who want it. cheers, Martin. posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:10 from: Andrew Duncan Hello Rob and Martin I wasn't aware of this standard (EM SF)and it sounds interesting as the crossings are more than half towards P4 which for me is P4s biggest visual benefit, that and super smooth running when well executed. I am attracted to 00-SF because the reduced flange ways look much better, and I'm inclined to believe running will be better than 00-?? (so long as B to Bs are monitored). But what is the cost in usable radii? Given that I have a penchant for 8- and 10-coupled heavy freight locos, what would be a sensible minimum – 36", 30", or something much more P4-like? Should I stick to 00-BF where presumably I could go down to 30" comfortably. 3. What method of track construction to employ? I'm not asking what is best (ply and rivet, pcb, or ply and chair.
