The guard rails should extend about 60' off the bridge to be protected at both ends, but often don't. Up until a few years ago all the sleepers under the guard and collecting rails would have been timber. But in the last couple of years steel sleepers have become available for the guard rails, and concrete bearers for both guard and collecting rails. I made two identical templates and stripped away all unrequired components from one of them- until I was left with this Any good? Hi Alan, Templot is a tool to use any way you wish. Overlaying partial templates is one way to create a set of catch points -- and the only way if it falls within other pointwork. But overlaying on plain track isn't a good idea, because the timbering will be plain sleepers instead of wider timbers, and they will be at the wrong spacings for the special switch chairs. For a simple stand-alone set of catch points, all you need to do is shorten a turnout to the stock rail joints, and there is a pre-set function to do that. Most model catch points use short 9ft or "A" switches, but you can use any size you wish if you have space: 2_060840_100000000.png If you use the "shift& join" functions, they will snap onto ...

I also remember being shown the pattern shop at Taylor Brothers' Sandiacre works where they had wooden patterns for every rail section they had ever had to use. They were able to adjust the spacing of the jaws for a double chair to suit. Of course, when vertical flatbottom design came along, we simply had to specify the overall width of the rail seat and we would specify a mid Pandrol clip housing whenever we could.
