Hi Tony,Thanks again for all your efforts- Having had a final glance at what you have done, which is much appreciated I have increased the tightest V on the 3-way to a 6 and adjusted the crossover point accordingly. This hasn't reduced the length of the headshunt or the run round loop, from what I can see anyway and also eased the tightest radius to 5ft, which is much more practical. Hopefully this will now be the final revision. In doing this I have obviously had to change your nicely tidied up three way and am unsure if I have kept it true in doing so, and therefore perhaps wondered if you would had 5 minutes you could give it a quick once over. So I thought I would post a new topic containing some old notes about this. There is an old page showing Templot tracks designed over a DXF import from XTrackCAD at: http://85a.co.uk/ision/rene_tandem.htm Like this: rene_tandem4.gif Note that the tracks shown in grey are background shapes imported from XTrackCAD, they are not Templot templates and cannot be adjusted using the usual Templot controls. But they can be overlaid as a design guide, and using the notch it is possible to align templates to them precisely: geometry> notch> notch on background shape menu item. The maximum number of background shapes which Templot can support is 32000. For this reason, when exporting a DXF file from a large XTrackCAD track plan for use in Templot, it is very advisable to export the track centre-lines only, without the rails and sleepers (ties) -- i.e. ...

Could you please tell, which menu and which option should I choose to change timber spacing to 1.4 millimiters between edges? Thank you very much in advance. Hi Tim, Welcome to Templot Club. The timbering data in Templot is based on the prototype dimensions (real railway sizes). Generally the spacing is not constant. The various special chairs (rail fixings) must fit the rails in specific locations. Which means the timber positions must be adjusted to support them. This page explains where to find the menu items for each section of a turnout: http://templot.com/companion/timber_spacings_overview.php timber_spacings_899x436.png Timber spacing is always specified from the centre of one timber to the centre of the next one, not by setting the gap between them. For Z gauge the scale is 1:220. If the gap between them is 1.4mm, that means on the prototype it is 1.4 x 220= 308mm. If your prototype timbers are say 250mm(?) wide ...

The most important thing is to ensure that the rail model follows the rail in the template imported from Templot. Turbocad has a "sweep" function that creates the rail model by sweeping a profile along the line on the template with a single click of the mouse. Yes, I know there are high-speed exceptions. The long timbers are usually 12" x 12" and sometimes bigger, up to 18" x 18", and the cross timbers- the transoms- are usually around 6" x 6" and are paired with a steel tie rod to strap the whole lot tight to hold the gauge. There are 80 slots in the rollback register, which sounds a lot. But it fills up surprisingly quickly once you start shoving timbers or adjusting check rails, or splitting partial templates.
