... topic: 720 timber shoving question posted: 2 Feb 2009 13:01 from: Martin Wynne copied from RMweb If I were to draw a cross-over from one line to the other in double track, would Templot draw all the interlaced sleepers? Templot includes full controls to create custom timbering layouts (called "timber shoving"), but it doesn't do it for you. That's because there is an infinite number of prototype permutations, and only you know what you want. When you click "make crossover" Templot automatically leaves a space in the timbering on one side, to remind you that some timber shoving will be needed to extend long timbers across from the other side. It's quite quick to do -- just click on the timber's number and then press the L key (lengthen) a few times. Each press adds 6" (scale) to the length. If you wish, every individual timber and sleeper in Templot can be adjusted for exact size and position, but normally it's only necessary to adjust a few of ...

... it would be a pointless waist for long sections of plain track! Roughly how much would it have cost me If I'd sent you the DXF file? Richard Hi Richard, Yes, a whole layout could be produced as a jigsaw puzzle. I have used Templot to draw the track formation for Bournemouth West. This comprises of 19 turnouts, 2 Scissors crossings and one double slip. I shall be cutting the track bases as a jigsaw puzzle, complete with plain track. Costs: There are two elements to the cost of custom bases, one is the cutting element, and the second is computer time to arrive at the cutting profile. I charge A$40 per hour for computer time. For the example given (Curved scissors crossover), computer time was about 30 minutes. So A$20, or at current exchange rates 9GBP. Cutting cost for this example A$32 or 15 GBP. So all up cost around 24 GBP. This assumes there is no problem with the DXF file. The main thing with this is leave the extensions to the sleepers off ...

... SW123? I suspect the answer is "no" because even a switch is still a complete turnout, just with most of it blanked off. Hi Paul, I've been giving this some further thought and I have changed my mind. I think it would be useful to see instantly which templates are only a switch (e.g. for catch points), and also which are partial templates used in complex formations. So I'm adding two new ID letters -- S for a switch and C for partial templates (C =Custom). For a switch I have created a new peg position IP (Intermediate) which is mid way between DP (CTRL-3) and FP (CTRL-4). The IP won't have much practical use for pegging, its purpose is to define the difference between a switch and a full turnout. If the overall length is shorter than IP the template is deemed to be a switch (S). If the overall length extends to IP or beyond it is deemed to be a turnout. On the ...

... topic: 3794 short rails, joints and timbering, rolling rails posted: 5 Oct 2020 07:35 from: Graham Long I have just made a new start for a track plan. Before I go too far I want to make sure I am using the programme efficiently. I have made a custom "rail and track" (44'6" with 18 sleepers per length) I have only got as far as making a loco release road road crossover and adjacent siding. Here is how a went about it. I have called the Templates 1 to 5 for the sake of this query. a) Got a plain track template, curved this to 1400 mm and made it 1 panel length. (Template 1) b) Produced a turnout template (Old GWR and 14' V angle 1:8) I curved this to MS of 5280. (Template 2) c) Then formed a crossover. (Templot 3) d) I then formed a double track to TS of Templot 2. (Templot 4) e) I ...
