... 403 Curved turnouts posted: 6 Apr 2008 15:26 from: Hayfield A bit of advice please My previous experance with curved points was with the SMP 36/24" radius kits, which came out nearly 2 foot long (well 18 inches) So I made a template with a B7 switch and kept the main line to 500' (78") (to keep other line out of the red in the min radius box) Made the point out of copperclad and it came out fine. I went back and printed off a B6 again at 500' main line radius, then thought I would look at a B6, I then found out I could keep the main radius down to 300' (47") without geting the other exit going into the red. Built another point and that worked out fine other than main line radius looks a bit tight. In reality I think my crossover will be on a starting radius of 400' (63") which would keep the other exit road shallower! On the basis that curving ...

Dave, I may have misunderstood what you were asking. I can easily add additional entries in the gauge/scale list. For example there is some discussion on RMweb of using 1:80 scale for 00 track instead of 1:76.2. This would make the sleepers print out smaller and closer together, of course. I have set the default size to 260mm x 180mm to fit easily on a single sheet of A4 paper. If you print out the sketchboard this is the size which it should print at. You can change the page size to whatever you want to suit your printer -- on the sketchboard control panel click the page tab and then set the dimensions. ... Brummitt Thanks Keith, for taking another look. I wondered about the rodding sharing a gap but decided that most of these that I've seen have them separate with the outside one closer to the the main line. The angle is different for each and I guess that makes space an issue where they come through the timber gap at an angle. They would both operate from the same lever, along with the turnout in the main line, but the rod must be separated at some place for the same reason. I've done another print out. I find it easier to see things than on the screen. I guess I should also reduce the timber spacing to 2'1" in the lead where the switch for the catch points are? It's currently a bit more than that. I might just do this as a deviation from the now printed template since it should be pretty simple. Richard. You may choose to break a large layout into power districts, which you can do easily in Templot by means of the template marker colours. To create a DC wiring plan from Templot you could try this: 1. In TDV export a PNG or BMP image file -- output> export a file... menu item. Select detail mode to get the individual rails. (In earlier versions print to a PDF generator, display the PDF and do a screen capture to a PNG or BMP image file.) Don't save in JPG format or you will get very messy results. 2. Open the image in any photo or graphics editor program, or in Windows Paint for preference. 3. Mark the rail breaks by drawing short white lines across the rails. 4. It's then easy to flood fill between the rail edges with any colours you wish, like this: 2_040442_590000000.png This topic covers this subject in more ...

... handy when working over a background picture shape when it's difficult to see the rails. Also on a slow system you can turn off the picture shape(s) while zooming and panning, and turn them back on when you have reached the required view. Temporarily hiding all the background templates (CTRL+ HOME toggle) can be handy when working on the finer details of the control template on a complex track plan. Bear in mind that this simply hides them on the trackpad -- they still appear in the outputs and printing. If that's not what you want, use the wipe functions instead (but note that Templot won't print empty pages without track). These are not new functions, but the new keyboard shortcuts make them more accessible and are much handier when you just want to flash them on and off. This however is a new group function (SHIFT+ CTRL+ HOME toggle) and potentially much more useful than hiding all the background templates in one go: 2_271212_540000001.png Bear in mind that there is room for confusion -- if ...

The viewer is buggy and has been crippled by Microsoft with the latest security restrictions. But the main objection is that it must be fully downloaded before any of it can be seen. That would currently be about 50MB for the Templot docs. And it would need to be downloaded again every time I make an update. This leads to the same problem as with printed documentation -- users will tend to go on using it long after it has gone out of date. Instead I have software which can mimic the CHM format as a web site. This means that I can update individual topics, and have the latest version always available to users. I have made a test run of the format using the XTrkCad help file, including search and indexing -- see it at: XTrkCad Help I'm working towards converting all of the Templot Companion to this same format. To get the result for a specific track gauge you would need to group all the templates of that gauge. When working with mixed-gauge track it is a good idea to use prefix tags for each gauge -- then you can easily group them when needed. In addition to Richard's suggestion, you could try box> print template info> all texts menu item. You won't want to physically print 400 pages of data, but you could create a PDF file using a PDF generator program. Then you can use the Search functions in your PDF viewer to find all occurrences of "smallest radius", or any other required data.
