... topic: 3550 Small screen items on Mac posted: 11 Nov 2019 22:00 from: Robert Edmonson Hello, Years ago I worked with Templot on an ancient Lenovo laptop running Windows XP. That was my "work" computer, but I have been a Mac user since the Mac was introduced. I am getting back into model railroading, so I loaded Parallels Desktop15 and Windows 10 and downloaded Templot2. (I have a 2019 version iMac, and I upgraded a few days ago to OS Catalina v. 10.15.1.) The attached screenshot summarizes my problem. The program opens with no problem, the work surface appears OK, but the menu bar and floating windows are postage-stamps that I can barely read: 3627_111652_460000000.png I'm at a loss, even to know where to begin to find the problem. I don't know if this is a Mac problem, Windows problem, or a Templot problem. I briefly searched the Club discussions, but found nothing that looked useful. I'd like to solve the issue so I can start designing. ...

Knowing the way Microsoft change file formats while no-one is looking, I need a test RTF file created with the latest version of Word. If anyone has an up-to-date version of Word, I would be grateful if you could create a small test file and save it in RTF format (not DOC). It needs just a few words of text in different colours and fonts, different paragraph background colours and indents, a small table, a couple of small images or icons, etc. You can attach RTF files here. The simplified editor in Templot as above is ok for plain text, but for tables, etc., importing from Word (or other RTF source) is needed. The sketchboard is often used for signal box diagrams, so being able to import locking tables, etc., is useful. It is working in current versions ...

The exe is incredibly frugal on hdd space and memory usage; considering the level of functionality it's surprising how small it is. Hi Derek, The compiler is currently showing 349,449 lines of code. That's a fairly meaningless number, because it depends whether you write a few long lines or lots of short ones. I will do a bit of delving and see if I can find the number of statements. I don't recall ever seeing such a figure in the compiler stats, but it should be in there somewhere. The small size of the exe file is for two reasons mainly: 1. I don't use any Microsoft tools to create it. 2. It uses only the Windows Common Controls and traditional plain menus -- that's why it runs well on Linux/ Wine/ CrossOver. ...

Unfortunately the most promising ones usually have a locomotive parked on them. I do regret not taking details many years ago when I regularly passed a fan of interlaced turnouts in the entrance to Denny Shipyard sidings at Dumbarton. I reckon they were probably original Caledonian since they were in a very poor state of repair and the Type 2 diesel which occasionally worked them kept a good few wagons as spacers in front of it so that it never had to venture onto the pointwork. I do wonder why there is so little information on Scottish pre-Grouping pointwork, especially since interlaced turnouts were being built up to Grouping and there is ample evidence that interlaced turnouts were being maintained and upgraded through LMS and BR days. Maybe that;s the problem in that the information was still treated as current and not disposed off or archived. Although I do remember that there was a widespread clearance in the aftermath of ...

... ...I will check back in two years and see if you have managed to fit it in between the boat building sessions. Hi Rob, I'm looking at it. (The outside-slip function, not the boat). However, these two new peg positions do make it possible for any reasonably experienced Templot user to take it from there themselves, because you have got all the crossings and switches aligned for you. Which was not the case with the tandems before the make tandem function for example. Indeed quite a few users will likely use that outside-slip as-is, and pencil in the final details on the printed construction template. The drawback is that these new functions work only with a regular diamond-crossing (both roads the same radius). A full make outside-slip function ideally needs to work for irregular diamonds too, because irregular outside-slips are quite common. But that's a major task -- your two years might be optimistic. Unless the boat sinks. cheers, Martin. posted: 16 May ...

I have added a new peg position at peg on split deflection: 2_281934_280000000.png This puts the peg on the TP switch toe position (CTRL-2) but at half the switch deflection angle. Which makes it easy to peg an irregular half-diamond onto a bit of plain track to create a switch front. The result is that I was able to create this with just a few clicks, and no timber shoving needed. In most cases you will want to set the V-crossing to curviform for a symmetrical result. In practice in many track planning situations there would be no need to create a separate switch front, it could be pegged directly onto an existing approach track. Then rolling the rails to put the switch-front rail joints in the right place. It's not a perfect solution, because being a half-diamond template some turnout functions are not available. ... in the full scale? Hi Jason, Yes, that's correct for UK practice with traditional wooden bearers. In the UK the bearers under plain track are called sleepers. They are 10 inches wide and 5 inches thick. That scales to 3.3mm wide in 4mm/ft scale models (00, EM, P4). The bearers under turnouts and other pointwork are called crossing timbers, usually just timbers. They are 12 inches wide and 6 inches thick. That scales to 4.0mm wide in 4mm/ft scale models. A few special ones are sometimes wider at 14 inches or even 16 inches where needed to support the chair castings for bullhead rail. Modern concrete bearers do vary a bit in thickness, but generally the widths are very similar. All these settings can be changed in Templot at real> timbering> menu items. cheers, Martin. I spent the next morning staring at my Ambis etches, feeling as baffled as before, and considering all the other options, before thinking I haven't given the Masokits stretcher bars enough of a go. So I made up two of them and fixed them onto a turnout. Unlike the previous time I'd tried them a few weeks ago for a turnout that will be offstage and has "model" (i.e. overscale) joggles, this turnout has undercut blades with no joggles, so the way they lie against the stock rail is critical, and they must lie all the way along the length of the planing, if there are to be no derailments. (This is P4 gauge) I'm very pleased with the result. The points set in each direction perfectly, quite freely but with a solid feel, all the way along the planing ...
