... : 22 Mar 2013 13:24 from: Brian Nicholls Hi Martin, As you say, It seems to be working very well and impressively so. The only squawk I have is, that you have changed the adjustable scaling of the 'background shapes' input menu down to only two decimal places which caused me some problem. A few months ago I was assisting a model railway group to work out a track plan for S7 modelling, and the original plans they had, which was of a proto site, had not been printed to any of the normal usual scales. I ended up with having to 'inch' the background shape input to a scale of 643.288 to get a known length on the actual ground to the correct S7 model length on the background image. When I re-visited the plan recently. I found I could now I could only get the nearest approximation to this scale factor i.e. 643.29. It was surprising that even that 0.002 difference made it such that previously templated model tracks did not quite line up, with the sectional ...

... topic: 2298 New templates from C&L in 00, EM and P4 posted: 28 Aug 2013 10:04 from: Martin Wynne C&L have finally released a huge new range of printed templates, created by Len Newman: http://www.finescale.org.uk/index.php?route=product/category&path=631 These are excellent REA bullhead template drawings with full chair detail. If you scan these templates (private use only) and load them into Templot as picture shapes, you can overlay the Templot equivalents and create fully chaired versions of your Templot track plans. (For curved turnouts, use the image wrapping function in the background shapes to curve the scanned image to match.) Here I have done that with the P4 B-8 template and overlaid the equivalent Templot template. To create that in Templot, change to a generic-type V-crossing and convert RAM to CLM crossing angles. I'm hoping these few example screenshots fall within fair dealing for copyright. These templates represent years of work by Len Newman - ...

If you prefer to click something rather than use the keyboard, have you tried using Templot with the Windows on-screen keyboard?* To get the F6 curving mouse action for example, you can just click the F6 key on the screen keyboard. You can drag the keyboard around, so this would give you a floating toolpad of sorts. Just an idea. Don't forget to print out the keyboard chart, and there is also a list of all the shortcuts, which you can print, in the "help" menu. *Start> Programs> Accessories> Acccessibility> On-Screen Keyboard: onscreen_kbd.png It has some menu settings. Question is the check rails have printed and are 5 sleepers long. The length of check rails depends on the V-crossing angle. For most UK flat-bottom track, check rail lengths are: angles up to 1:10 --- 13ft check rails spanning 5 timbers angles over 1:10 up to 1:12 --- 15ft-6in check rails spanning 6 timbers angles over ...

Hi Ray, Well you could do this for ordinary turnouts, although the geometry will be a bit distorted. Not really recommended, and it's easy with Templot to print the right template so why not do that? You can't do this for diamond-crossings and slips. For these it is essential that the template is drawn to exactly the same track gauge as the gauge tools which you will be using. Otherwise it will be impossible to align the rails correctly. For this reason it is important to check the printer calibration before printing templates for diamonds and slips. The length of a template is dependent on the track gauge. 00-SF track gauge (16.2mm) is smaller than ...

Hi Mark, Not really. The original "background shapes" function was intended mainly for layout constructional features such as baseboard outlines (staging?), turntable wells, traversers, backscene boards, etc. i.e. features which you would probably want included on the printed track construction templates. And also for the "picture shapes" -- scans and maps to be used as a guide in creating the track plan. The sketchboard is intended mainly to create attractive layout diagrams for use on web sites, in blogs, in magazine articles, exhibition guides, etc. And also for control panels and signal box (tower?) diagrams, etc. i.e. all the cases where you want a colourful copy of your track plan design, but not containing full track constructional detail.
