... Templot tracks drawn in its place. Somewhere here is the germ of an idea, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Imagine capturing a background map in the same way as the NLS historic maps. But from the Templot server. And it contains not fuzzy track lines, but Templot track templates, ready to use or modify. Would that be useful? And how many Templot volunteers, working for how many years, would it take to create a reasonable coverage of the UK? But if restricted to a few selected locations, it might be possible at least to make a start? Or it might be a very silly idea. Martin. posted: 25 Jul 2020 02:29 from: Rob Manchester Hi Martin, Interesting idea. Are you thinking it would be possible( given time) to produce Templot box files from the details of tracks contained in OSM? Are the tracks on OSM not just symbolic rather than actual layouts? For example the ring will be useful for goods line signal arms on signal box diagrams. They can all be resized, stretched and rotated as before. And can be outlines, infill, or both, in any colours you wish, with adjustable transparency. For the arc and ring, the inner radius can be set as a% of the outer radius. ... here rather than normal curved stockrails? I am pretty sure that this could be replicated by using a 3 foot ruling radius on both sides. At this stage I only need/want to worry about the BG lines. The NG ones all pretty make look after themselves. I have looked through my BGS fact sheets on trackwork etc. but it largely focuses on baulk road. Pictures rarely show mixed gauge 3 ways and I certainly can't find anything that suggesting an interlaced diverging road. Dropping below 3' radius also creates a few problems in construction as space becomes very limited in 2mm as crossing angles get shallower. So after all of that rambling the real questions are: (a) Is there likely to be a ruling crossing angle that all of these 3 ways will abide by? If so then obviously I can jig build but the plan suggests different radii on some lines. That may be down to the draughting rather than a reflection of reality?? ... Jan 2019 00:58 from: Rob Manchester Hello all, After the announcement that the EMGS are offering RTR EM gauge plain track and turnouts is there any scope for developments similar to that offered for a long time by Tillig in Germany. As well as RTR turnouts they produce turnout kits in HO and TT gauge that are made with flexible moulded bases which give some scope for 'bending' the design to fit within a trackplan or produce more prototypical formations. 2001_181949_260000000.jpg The above is an example. I have a catalogue from a few years ago and the instructions mention bending the base and heating with hot air to keep it in place while the rails are threaded Not sure how practicable this would be for EM turnout production. The bases are injection moulded but if a sufficiently flexible material could be found they may be suitable for 3D printing Rob posted: 19 Jan 2019 08:45 from: Andrew Duncan Hello Rob Do the Tillig ones really work is my first thought? ... toolbar is disregarded in the zoom calculations. The overall track plan size is calculated and then increased by 15% to allow for some margin space, and then fitted to the full trackpad client area. How close this comes to the top of the screen depends on the relative aspect ratios of the track plan and the screen area. Often track plans are wide and narrow on the screen, so that there is clear space top and bottom. None of this has changed in 18 years, while the toolbar has increased from a few buttons in the top corner to now two full rows of buttons. I can see that there could be potential issues now with the deeper toolbar obscuring part of the plan, even though on widescreen monitors it occupies only about half of the screen width.
