However, if you do need that: 1. copy the turnout to the control. 2. click tools> make split> make plain track turnout road> on external geometrical radius menu item. For the track work specs I'm guessing something like this: 9' sleepers, Plain track- 12" wide sleepers at rail joints, 10" wide elsewhere Turnouts- 12" wide timbers 30' rail length Straight-cut switches Turnout timbers perpendicular to axis of turnout BH rail Anybody know (or care to conjecture) whether I'm close or not? Graham posted: 20 Apr 2017 21:47 from: Bruce M Further to the above posts, I was able to take a trip to Leuchars today and was delighted to discover that the old sidings are refreshingly clear of greenery, allowing me to get a couple of photos. As can be seen, the chairs are used at the rail joints. The first item of interest is that the chairs, which are of the same pattern as the 1922 ones spotted by Graham, appear to be marked 1933! So, cast 10 years after the demise of the NB. The rails are 45' long and the plain chairs are NBR 4 hole units, so I would imagine that this is late NB mainline rail in reused chairs. The second thing that is of interest is that on a fair length of the siding, about 1 in 4 sleepers and chairs have recently been replaced with modern substitutes! This is presumably a minimal replacement to keep the track up to supporting ECS during major golf events at St. Andrews. So NBR rail and chairs ...

... topic: 2627 Maximum cant at slow speed (with cinder ballasted track) posted: 7 Feb 2015 18:33 from: DerekStuart Another one of my obscure questions... I have built a test/ photo plank. It has a 10 chain curve with checkrail. To make it fit in the required space it doesn't have a transition zone- but it's for photos/test not running. I have checked a cant/speed table that was pointed out to me by a resident of this good parish (though I cannot recall who-sorry) and a 10 chain with 5.5 inch cant gives a speed limit of 30MPH. However, it has been suggested to me that this table would only apply to stone ballasted track and that on a cinder/ash ballast, as I intended it to be, the cant and thus speed would be much lower. Would anyone care to tell me if that's the case? Thanks Derek EDIT: Perhaps the title should be "maximum cant on a slow speed line with cinder ballast" but I ...

Dave posted: 20 May 2015 01:51 from: Martin Wynne Hi Dave, If Castle class locos are using the crossover I doubt it would be anything shorter than B-8 and more likely C-10. Even then the platform edges will need a cut-back section to clear the loco overhangs while crossing over. Generally an arrangement such as you describe would be more typical of a suburban terminus, using smaller locomotives. For a main-line terminus a middle release road is more likely, or else incoming locomotives are released by the station pilot loco removing the stock to another platform, or to the carriage sidings. GWR crossings often used 14" wide timbers for the "A" timber which makes it easier to fit the chairs on a skew. The long machined flare on the check rail looks unlikely for bullhead -- there ...
