They are based on the C&L printed templates and they also match the templates for a turnout jig that is available from the Association shop. Some time ago you advised me that we need to specify Generic crossing in order that the Templot generated templates will match the sleeper counts of the C&L templates. This works very well and I have prepared the plan for my own layout using this and have now built some of the trackwork. I am running a short seminar on Templot at an Association Expo later this month and I would like to be able to show members a simple way of setting Templot to always use Generic crossings. I can't see a way of doing this and it is very easy to forget when you generate a new turnout. Is there a way of ...

... topic: 2769 Turnout-road centre-line posted: 30 Oct 2015 14:17 from: Martin Wynne Since the earliest days of Templot, the turnout road centre-line has linked directly from the V-crossing to the deflection point DP (CTRL-3 ), instead of following the actual turnout curve: 2_300829_040000000.png This was useful at a time when it was sometimes necessary to pencil-in additional construction lines on the printed templates. But it must be 20 years since the last time I needed to do that. Until now I have left this feature unchanged, mainly because it is a useful aid when zoomed out on the trackpad, or looking at the printed templates, to identify quickly the hand of the template. With the introduction of irregular diamonds in Templot2 it was necessary to do something about this, because the DP position is meaningless in such a template, and sometimes not even contained within its boundary. A centre-line linking to it looked very odd and confusing. But at that time I left the turnouts unchanged ...

If it is a Templot template the two marks will be on the template. You can align the rail over the template and check that the set angle matches the template. Time spent at this stage checking and adjusting will be well repaid later. If you have stuck the timbers on the template, it is worth printing off another one to check the rail against more easily. 6. Fix the straight stock rail first, it is just plain rail. 7. Start fixing the curved stock rail at the switch front, gauging from the straight stock rail in the usual way. Don't go beyond the set yet. 8. As a test to allow me to create test straight track in both gauges I created a simple 500mm length drawing in N for UK gauge and printed it. I then changed to 2mmFS gauge using the gauge/scale selector and printed it. In both cases the Information Panel showed the correct gauge of 9mm and 9.42mm respectively. The printouts were identical. Does this mean that changing the gauge is not possible after a track template has been created? I thought from other reading that a change as simple as this was possible. Is the only way I can get a printout of a 2mm 9.42mm gauge straight by creating it as an original? This is not a problem with the turnouts I have designed as I intend to still use the 9mm standard in their case. Regards, ken PS ...

Though I recognize that this is designed for a video, perhaps a few more screen shots would make it all the more clear for those who prefer a printed document. I do like the ease and elegance you have in using the centre lines to get things accurate, much better than the method I evolved anyway and I shall certianly use it future. However, I am puzzled as to why you keep so much in the 'Parking bay'. You see the results only on the printed templates, and only for background templates (not the control template). That's why it is called "provisional". In practice this isn't too much of a restriction, the presence of the rail foot lines on the screen would seriously add to the screen clutter while doing track design.
