... topic: 2030 Hiding background templates posted: 24 Jul 2012 22:57 from: acoake Having a helix in my track plan, I am finding it difficult to identify where each level of the helix is located. This makes it difficult to select where to insert turnouts etc and also makes the printed track plans very difficult to follow. Does anybody have a method for doing this, or would Martin please give some consideration to providing a facility for doing this? Many thanks Allen Oakes posted: 25 Jul 2012 02:12 from: Martin Wynne Hi Allen, There are several ways to do this: 1. Change the templates to centre-line-only templates, or 2. wipe them from the trackpad, or 3. Save them in a separate .box file, or 4. Show them in a less prominent colour. ... topic: 2806 Using Templot Template as a permanent track base posted: 13 Dec 2015 11:46 from: brianod Hi, I have been building track using Templot for a while but until now I have used the paper template as a temporary base and so I have printed onto 80 gsm A3 paper and glued the sleepers with paper glue such as Prit Stick and then removed the paper template when the section of track is complete usually by spaying the paper with water. Obviously I then have to be very careful when moving the track section to the baseboard. I understand that a number of members build the track sections permanently on the template using heavier paper and then ballasting over the paper template once the track is laid. I have just purchased some 160 gsm A3 paper from Staples and can see the advantage of this method of track build- much less chance of damage to the completed track section when either trying to remove the template or moving the section to it's final location. Not wanting to re-invent the wheel, my question is what ...

I believe I need to approach this systematically. 1) Create a new Custom Gauge, 2) Create a standard template for turnout and track geometry and timbering, 2) Record this new template as a library, 3) Import the station track plan background into a new box, 4) Create full track template, print and build. C is any scrap bit of rail or etched kit waste, soldered on top of the rail for stability while handling. Unsolder or cut off after installing the vee in the turnout, and then the surplus vee rail ends are trimmed back as required. Hold the rails down on the edge of a small block of wood using a penny washer on top and a screw. Stick a bit of printed template on the block as a guide. If you don't have a penny washer to hand you can drill a hole in an old coin. Assemble as shown using high-temperature solder because the rail gets hot while sanding. Using high-temp solder also reduces the risk of it coming apart later if you are using soldered track construction. The washer may get sanded along with the rail, but no matter. ... 17 from: Jamie92208 I've just spent the evening checking clearances on my Lancaster Green Ayre layout where we laid the first length of 6'radius track. I used a 60' coach and found that the end overhang was exactly the same as the centre overhang. In 0 gauge this came to 14mm. I had set my track centre's at an overscale 90mm as opposed to a scale 80mm, on purpose and we found that there was still about 6mm of clearance between two similar vehicles on the bend. The same can be done by printing out a few templates, cutting a piece of plasticard to the shape of a coach and drilling 3mm holes at the bogie centres. You can then use these holes to sight through onto the track centre lines on the printout. Hope this is helpful.
