... am sure many of you are familiar with these types of plans. I have been trying this: Single length of plain track the length of the layout. Chop it up into 5 or 6 lengths. Curve each length of straight track and join them back up with F7. Looking good so far. Bring each length back into control in turn and make them into double track. I now have a nice sweeping double track layout. Still looking good. Now for some pointwork. This is where it goes wrong. Just inserting a turnout into one of the plain sections and making a simple crossover doesn't work most of the time as one or other of the turnouts goes over the end of the associated plain track section and produces a crossover to nowhere! It works fine of course if the whole crossover fits within the double track section length. I suspect my method of splitting up the plain track into short lengths is flawed but I am at a loss to see a better way so far. Sorry if the above description isn't the best thought out ...

If the link doesn't take you to the intended place in the topic, simply wait until the page is fully loaded and then click Reload. This is a bug in Firefox. The anchor location within a page is calculated before the images have finished loading, and if the page source doesn't include the size of the images, the answer is wrong. This is a problem on all forums where images are often located elsewhere and inserted with IMG tags. RMweb has the same problem for Firefox users. Hi Julia, That sounds like you want a symmetrical 3-throw turnout? In which case you can get the basic alignments just by overlaying left and right hand turnouts: 1. start with a straight turnout of the required size (radius). 2. press the CTRL+ 0 (zero) keys. 3. press the INSERT key. 4. click the template> swap hand menu item. 5. press the INSERT key. 6. press the HOME key. However, have you actually tried building such a thing? It's very tricky to get the coincident switches working properly -- such turnouts are confined to yards and sidings on the prototype. Far more common are 3-way tandem turnouts, with staggered switches, as in the video. regards, Martin. posted: 21 Oct 2012 23:54 from: julia I am noticing ...

Hi, I think it is really sad that someone has given up on TEMPLOT as it is such a useful and powerful help to the modeller- I am a fully paid up "Neo-Luddite" but have still managed to complete (with some help!) a (for me) fairly complex layout design and (at least) start construction- my project would never have got this far without TEMPLOT. As far as trap points- Brighton ones appear to be double bladed, so I've just inserted a turnout and shorten the overal length so that I only get the bits I want! As for Alan's proviso (above)- I would not claim to have that knowledge and would still say that it is possible to use TEMPLOT without it- like most software (including that designed by the so-called professional (or is it just commercial?) outfit run by Mr Gates) you do need to be using it to become fluent- like a foreign language. I think if you had zoomed out you would have seen it. The Z symbol is actually the fixing peg, it just gets drawn differently when the template length is zero. The idea is that an invalidated template is thereby prevented from being stored, as the message you saw explained. When you do CTRL+ V (or INSERT or click the down-arrows tool-button) in Quick mode, the control template is invalidated automatically. Otherwise it would get duplicated on the background when you click on the next template, or click the NEW tool-button. Ideally you should never need to store a template yourself in Quick mode. The basic tenet of Quick mode is that Templot always stores the templates for you. Maybe Quick mode needs some more thought and explanation?
