The plain track was created as a branch track from the turnout on the right and curved until i could make a transition with the tandem on the right and adjusted to fit. I then "inserted turnout in plain track". The result is shown. 38_271536_300000000.png I'm using Win 7 pro. I have attached the box file. I hope that I've got the right one. However, I very quickly came to realize that Martins' video (excellent tho' it is </ END_FURTHER_GROVEL>) only really caters for the free-form school of layout design; My problem appeared to be far harder since I'm trying to construct a truly tandem turnout i.e. all turnout roads branch from on the same side of the main road, based on a scanned prototype track plan that has, in total, 7 roads branching from the main line via interlaced tandem turnouts. After much cursing and a modicum of thought, I believe I have the best Fathers Day present- from myself- I came up with the following sequence to generate the overlayed turnouts (and hope it may be of interest/use to ...

I have searched the previously posted topics on this subject and at this stage still need help on the following points. What is the difference between 3way and tandem turnouts? I'm sure I've seen this once but couldn't find the topic again to reread it. What suggestions can you make for deciding which turnout settings work together sensibly? All the examples I've seen are for the middle road being the main road. I'm particularly interested in curved turnouts where either of the outer roads are the main road. I haven't been able to work out how to achieve this. Ideally it would be nice to be able to:- Insert a turnout into a plain track aligned on the turnout road rather than the main road peg/align turnout over an existing turnout aligned on the turnout road rather than the main road. Possibly neither of the latter ideas are ...

... topic: 626 Tandem turnout at Beverley posted: 16 Nov 2008 16:36 from: Martin Wynne Two more pictures kindly supplied by Mick Nicholson. These show a tandem turnout at Beverley. This is what might be called a "type 2" tandem, where the second switch is in the turnout road of the first switch. It is more usual for the second switch to be in the main road of the first switch (as in the tandem video). Notice also the reverse curving through this tandem. Definitely one for the collection, and an interesting challenge in Templot. I think I will keep this picture for the reply the next time someone asks for a tandem as a single click! ... RH turnout to the through track. Effectively, the point blades of the LH are (should be) pretty much right up near the frog points of the RH. Hi Bruce, Do you have a drawing or photo of such an arrangement? As far as I know it's impossible to have the point tips of a switch in line with the nose of a vee. There would be no way to arrange the wing rail, and the wheels would be unsupported. Perhaps you mean that this should be a 3-way tandem turnout? As it is, you already have the point tips behind the ends of the check rails. This is also not possible as the points will not be able to open far enough. Also, these two turnouts have a very unlikely combination of 16ft-6in switches with a 1:4.25 crossing angle. This results in a longer turnout than necessary and a smaller radius. It would be very much more likely that such turnouts would have 11ft-0in switches. You already have a stored template with that size ...

I hope it is in the correct format and in the right forum (couldn't find a way of changing the forum for this message). I'm working in S4-X and have an awkward arrangement of a tandem turnout with a running line intersecting it. The running line diverges from the left-hand arm of the tandem and runs across the other two arms. The problems I have are in the detailing: (1) how do I make the diamonds when they're within the bounds of the turnout? I've resorted to crafting the V and K crossings individually using the gaunt turnout procedure for adding a third V to a tandem turnout. The Vs I can cope with but the Ks are more awkward, especially when trying to match the radii involved. I'm sure there must be a more elegant solution somewhere but I'm afraid it eludes me. The ...

This will gain you quite a bit of space in the sidings and platform 3. A tandem turnout is easier to build than a double slip, and in any event your crossing angles are too short for a double slip. Does it have to be double-track? When space is tight most modellers settle on a single-track design. In the space you have available I think it would be quite difficult to have trains arriving and departing simultaneously. regards, Martin. posted: 23 Jan 2012 13 ...
