... . The solution to this would be to extend the check rails at D further to the left in order to check the back of the wheel at A. Unfortunately that is not possible in N gauge because of the wide flangeway gaps needed. This is always a problem with standard 00 gauge (00-BF) and N gauge. The wide flangeway gaps can make it impossible to replicate some prototype formations. The only solution is to change the relative positions of the V-crossings. The way to do that is to adjust the running-line track centres, until a design is achieved in which all the V-crossings can be properly checked (i.e. have all check rails where needed). You are currently using the default N gauge 25mm track centres. Given the comparatively easy radii in the running lines, you could perhaps try reducing this to the scale 6ft way spacing of 23mm (1 :148 scale, UK N gauge). But you then have to be careful that the other V-crossing on the left above remains ...

... teachings was 'robust design of experiments'! Brilliant tip about the tie bar- thanks. Don posted: 13 May 2015 08:30 from: Hayfield Don There have been lots of ideas about tiebars with wire soldered to the rails dropping into metal tube attached to the tiebar being preferred by many. The idea of using copperclad sleepers for strength is also valid, but when chairs are glued to plastic timbers these are equally very strong joints. The main benefit is to simplify the building of common crossings, and the ability to adjust the rails easily, the use of spacers maintains the visual appearance by allowing the use of chairs. Pre gap and fill the sleepers and copperclad spacers are easier to grind back to the rail sides. Once I had drawn one track I was then able to offset the rest 100mm and, with a bit of adjustment, that seems to work. I have left some space at both ends of the loops, so that loco or stock can be shunted between loops without lifting them off the track. The loops are still plenty long enough for my branch line trains. An updated plan is enclosed. I now have to work out how to wire it for DCC. I think one Auto-reverse module should do this? N.B. After inserting a turnout into plain track, you can adjust it to whatever crossing angle you want. (Usually using the F5 mouse action.) Whether it is in straight or curved track makes no difference. In fact in Templot there is no difference -- straight track is simply curved track having a very large radius. Actually 1.0E8-5000mm radius (99995000mm= 62 miles radius). ... , Welcome to Templot Club. At present you are creating a double-junction having a regular-type diamond-crossing, where all the radii are the same and in the same direction. For the type of diverging double-junction which you want, you need to create an irregular-type diamond-crossing. There are two ways to do that. Method A. The easy way is to create a curviform ladder: 1. set up the first turnout and change the type of V-crossing to curviform. Adjust the size of the turnout to produce the required branch radius: 2_281652_350000003.png 2. click the option to create a curviform ladder: 2_281652_350000002.png 3. this is the result. Snake it along (CTRL+ F6 mouse action) to align with the branch track. Zoom in for a precise result. 2_281652_350000000.png You should normally end up with the two turnouts staggered slightly. ...

I have added a "re-run essential click screens" section at the end as a quick reminder of the required click sequence without any text or moving video. I have also added the check rail adjustment as it is quite short. I have also converted the old single-slip video to FBR format and tacked it on at the end of the new one as a familiar reference for anyone still using older versions of Templot.
