... by increasing the track centres the V crossings have now moved to a position where they 'line up' with the diamond V crossings so cannot be checked correctly. Let me have another go before you spend your time taking a look. People say Templot is a hard program to use, I don't agree. I have no problem using Templot. The hard bit is being your own track engineer and designing workable formations, its like solving a 3-D puzzle! Strangely addictive though. Julian posted: 28 Oct 2014 01:10 from: Tony W Hi Julian. I had a quick look last night and the general layout appears much better. I will let you have another go but offer a little tip. By making small adjustments to the track spacing, (and I mean fractions of a mm) you can alter the way the timbers line up with those on the next track when generating a crossover. Say for instance the crossing timbers are 1mm out of line with each other for a 1 in 8 crossover altering the track centres by 1 ...

... topic: 782 Toggling Background Shapes posted: 7 Apr 2009 10:35 from: Andy G Martin, I am currently working on drawing the trackwork for the relaying of Slattocks Junction. I have drawn the baseboards and also have a couple of very large scans of the existing trackwork. I've managed to get by with setting the scans to transparent on occasion so that I can see the baseboards through them but it would be very useful if there was an option to turn individual shapes off. More importantly, how do I make one? On the few pictures I can find it looks as if many modellers have left the rail straight and just filed the tip off at an angle. I cannot find any pictures of the real K-crossing crossing pre-grouping or even in the early days of grouping. But I would have thought that if you make the rail head like this, it will mean that the rail head is not supported at the tip by the rail web? So should these rails be made in the same way as a V-crossing point rail? i.e. bend 10mm (in 0 gauge) towards the running face, file railhead only on the running side to make the running surface straight again; and then file the crossing angle on ...

... , not by setting the gap between them. For Z gauge the scale is 1:220. If the gap between them is 1.4mm, that means on the prototype it is 1.4 x 220= 308mm. If your prototype timbers are say 250mm(?) wide, that means the centre-to-centre spacing would be 250+ 308= 558mm, which is 22 inches. So you would enter 22 inches centre-to-centre spacing. Are you modelling American railways? Generally timbers are narrower than 250mm/10 inches, and typically at 21 inches spacing. It cannot be said that any of the readily available slow-motion motors are really that quiet (this may be OK in an exhibition setting but not at home). So that just leaves R/C servo motors and manual operation. Whilst R/C Servo Motors are not totally silent they are as near to it as we are likely to get for the moment.
