... topic: 2518 From the memory banks posted: 22 Aug 2014 12:54 from: Martin Wynne A topic on RMweb has just reminded me of something I tried a long time ago. Nowadays the availability of moulded chairs may make it worth considering for beginners. You can build initially with the cheapness and adjustability of copper-clad, and then only later fit cosmetic half-chairs if desired. For this to be possible the rails need to be lifted above the surface of the timber (strictly by a scale 1.75", the thickness of the base of a chair casting, or 0.58mm in 4mm/ft scale -- but anything is better than nothing). From an old topic on RMweb: 95_crossover02_1.jpg In another world a long time ago I once did something very similar using single-sided Vero pins. It was much quicker to do than the above looks to be. Use a softish workboard material under the template. Drill a 1mm hole with mini-drill, through the copper-clad and into the board, abrade off ...

See this topic: topic 2642- message 18205 I have adopted the FBR format for future video tutorials because 1. it allows interactive stop-starts, call-outs, web links, Jump-To list, etc. This makes it possible to combine static text tutorials with video in a single format instead of having to do both. 2. the FBR picture quality is lossless, matches the original exactly and is comfortable to watch. This is important when making precise adjustments to rail edges, etc. 3. the file size is small and won't send the server bandwidth through the roof if several hundred users are accessing the videos. 4. the FBR recorder and editor are quirky in design but reliable and pleasant to use, unlike the Camtasia program which I used previously which was buggy and liable to crash at the least convenient moment, driving me mad. 5. That said, all the buildings are to the left of the bay platform (top) but I will see if I can find a more defined measurement for this. Edit: I've just taken some measurements from a couple of pictures using people as a reference, looks to be about 25' wide so will need to adjust the track spacing to approx 138mm(?). The same can be said for the straight track, looking at what photos I have that's how it is. I could put in a slight curve but wonder if this would command criticism from those in the know. Otherwise it's not possible to fit all the chairs with the required clearances. Generally this means you need a significant difference in the crossing angles. For example a common size is a 1:6 turnout combined with a 1:8 turnout. A difference of only 1:5 to 1:5.5 may not be enough, but some further lead length adjustment is possible on the flatter angles by increasing the crossing entry straight. I have yet to try the 9ft straight heel switch option. Is this likely to make a difference? Yes, it will significantly change the geometry. Generally using the shorter straight switches saves a lot of space on non-natural turnouts and gives you more flexibility in the design of formations. You don't have to actually build them as loose-heel switches if you don't want to -- just adopt the geometry, adding dummy heel joints. I'm ...

I much prefer working from paper plans and I looked at some way of printing it out- like using PaintShopPro or Gimp to split the file into individual bits to print on A4 or A3 paper. But it would have been difficult to get the printing scale on each printed sheet. Then I thought about the TDV, converted the .GIF to .PNG and imported the file as an image, adjusted it to be about A1 size, put a couple of plain track templates across it with rails and timbers turned off, then printed out to A3 PDF, printed the lot out on A3 paper, and joined them all together. Either way, from a model point of view, this means that you need a length of track between the "hidden sidings" (my assumption) and the Home Signals which is at least as long as the platforms and it is not clear from the plan if you have allowed that. You could get round all of this if the area you currently have marked as "Gas Works" could be given over to carriage sidings (with a suitable adjustment to the layout) of at least the same length as the platforms. As an alternative, you could shorten the Platform lengths to allow the Main to be long enough to allow the Advanced Starter to be in the "scenic" bit. The same might also apply to goods trains since you currently would have to run round them in the Branch bay then shunt them out, though in that case, you could get round that issue by providing a cross-over in the yard, or, alternatively, by having ...

This is both its strength and to some extent its weakness. There are usually several different ways of achieving the same thing and just about everything is cabable of being adjusted to suit the users special needs with the customised options. If there is any timber-shoving present on any timber, the restore all button should always be active. I will get it fixed. Normally there should be no need to shove the position of any switch timbers, because the spacings can be individually set up in the custom switch settings. But the timbers may have been adjusted in other ways -- for example timbers S1 and S2 are often lengthened to carry point levers, rodding cranks or detection gear. So it would not be right to cancel all shoving automatically when changing to a different switch. Regardless of the working of the restore all button, if the show all shoved timbers box is ticked, any timbers which have been shoved should be showing coloured blue while the timber shoving dialog is visible. regards, Martin. posted: 19 Nov 2011 23:06 from: Martin Wynne I ...
