... I don't trust rail joiners. The only issue that you may have to deal with is the extra stiffness in the FB rail section caused by the wider bottom flange compared to BH rail. This issue only really comes up at the heal of the switch rails... you'll choose flexible or hinged connection points. Hinged switch rails are not an issue other than concerns for power continuity at the break point, whereas flexible heals, while overcoming electrical issues, can be a bit more difficult to wrangle. I have tried a few ways of handlaying turnouts in codes 70, 83 and 100 and my definite preferred method is to build upside-down at the workbench and then transpose the shaped and soldered switch/closure/frog/wingrail components to their ties on the layout. The stock rails are laid last and gauged from the frog and closure rails. To do this, a "reverse image" mirror left/right hand (Ctrl H) template from the Templot design is printed out and the rails installed over that by having bits of wood ...

As for the back siding, I was thinking a small wooden clad or corrugated style good sheds with perhaps a small covered loading roof with a raised edge for loading of sugar beat and other goods traffic. As you move left towards the fiddle yard, I had planned to slowly fade the raised loading dock out into slightly over grown greenery with a few more trees and a small water tower. I am however open to ideas and suggestions as it's in the early stages of design/development! In regards to the second storage road, I did originally plan it like this but felt like it removed to much of the depth I was trying to create, which is enough of a challenge as it is in 7mm, and unfortunately I can't really make the baseboards any deeper. I was planning on getting away with this by designing a cassette which would sit in a cut ...

That was my "work" computer, but I have been a Mac user since the Mac was introduced. I am getting back into model railroading, so I loaded Parallels Desktop15 and Windows 10 and downloaded Templot2. (I have a 2019 version iMac, and I upgraded a few days ago to OS Catalina v. 10.15.1.) The attached screenshot summarizes my problem. The program opens with no problem, the work surface appears OK, but the menu bar and floating windows are postage-stamps that I can barely read: 3627_111652_460000000.png I'm at a loss, even to know where to begin to find the problem. ... to stretch the lead length in EM to match the prototype lead length, I made some adjustments: 1. I created a custom switch, using GWR 12ft geometry on the REA "A" timber spacings and rail joint positions. 2. Then to get the exact lead length (LNER 47ft-1.75in, 188.58mm), I modified the crossing angle by a fraction to 1:4.96 RAM, 1:5.01 CLM. 3. The lead length and timber positions then matched the template, but I needed to lengthen a few of the timbers to match. Some of them now look a bit too long to me, an effect made more noticeable by the reduced EM gauge. 4. The extra timber on the end appears to be an error on the Exactoscale template, so I haven't included it on this template. The vee point rail for an REA 1:5 crossing should be 11ft-4in long (45.33mm), as shown on the Templot templates. 5. I set 13ft long (5 -chair) check rails. The ...

Hi Robin, I don't think you should assume that equalized timbering is unsuitable for the LNER. Although the company drawing offices typically produced standard drawings showing one style or the other, the actual timbering on a specific site is normally determined by the local layout, conditions and traffic patterns. Here's some text that I have posted a few times: Timbering style is a frequently asked question, because there is no clear answer. Generally speaking, equalized timbering was the norm in the pre-grouping period (before the 1920s), and square-on timbering is the standard now. Between then and now you get both. The change was gradual and varied in pace according to local practice. For much of the post-grouping steam era it would be common to see square-on used for main running lines, with older equalized timbered turnouts predominating in ...

I used a 60' coach and found that the end overhang was exactly the same as the centre overhang. In 0 gauge this came to 14mm.
