You wouldn't see it on the plan, but do you want to include and obstacle course (e.g. steps, twists, gauge narrowing, etc.) on one siding to see how well stock copes with substandard track? The important fact was the special chairs at the crossing. These had to be positioned at specific spacings from the crossing nose and the timber locations were therefore determined.
