So to find the track centre-to-centre spacing you simply add on the gauge: 7'-0.1/4" gauge+ 6'-6"= 13'-6.1/4" centres (54.08mm in 4mm scale). ... the dummy template to create each transition curve template. It needs a bit of fiddling about with the radii -- the curves must come as close together as possible without actually touching, and they must do it at locations well clear of the centre section, and clear of the turnouts. Otherwise the resulting transition zones will be too long and/or overlap each other or the turnouts. If you have not used "make transition" before you will probably need a bit of practice. By the way, those B-10 turnouts are not a good choice in this situation -- B switches won't take much curving and still run reliably. You would probably do better to change them to C-10, which is a popular model size for curved turnouts. regards, Martin. posted: 27 Aug 2010 15:00 from: Robert Preston Thanks for that, Martin. On balance I think these turnouts could be in the range C9 to C10, but there are too many timbers to be C8. There was a field behind the shop littered with abandoned trailers and containers, in which you could go rummaging for all manner of surplus technical equipment. Some of it had obviously cost a fortune to manufacture, with turned brass fittings and complex machined housings and sealed lids. And in the next container you found an entire army canteen -- wonky tables and chairs, huge aluminium pots and pans, dented trays and trolleys. Then it was a case of dragging your booty back into the shop and haggling over a price. Happy days. All gone now of course. Even the cruise missile. It's now a modern shed selling chinese imports and outdoor clothing which you could buy just as easily somewhere else. So the business is probably rather hampered by being located in the Herefordshire countryside miles from anywhere. And now the final straw ...
