... can use. You get to that figure by starting with a turnout curved to 30" radius in the main road, and then modifying the size of the turnout until the desired inner radius shows up in the information panel. The size of a turnout is adjusted using the F5 mouse action, and by zooming in close you can get a very fine adjustment. The size of a turnout is the combination of switch type and size (points planing angle), and V-crossing angle (frog angle), and a few other settings such as the type of V-crossing. There are some diagrams explaining this at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/gs_realtrack.htm The diverging turnout road is a compound curve of several radii, so you can choose which one to call the "inner radius". The actual radius in the rails between the heel of the switch and the wing rail front is called the "turnout radius" and is usually the smallest radius in the turnout and the one usually meant when handbuilding. ... topic: 774 Swiss Layout posted: 28 Mar 2009 19:00 from: Alan McMillan Hi Folks You may remember I designed a large Swiss layout in P87 a few months back. Well I decided it had grown too extravagant and too much space was given over to the station platforms and were essentially wasted space (they would have been 15 feet long). It seemed to me a better idea would be to have the platforms at least partially hidden under a train shed on a curve which would mean I wouldn't need to model their entire length. This was an idea I first saw on Chris Pendleton's layout "Kirkwhelpington" at Model Rail 78 in Glasgow. (That layout was the inspiration that got me into finescale (P4) modelling in the first place). The hidden parts on the curve would be the tail end of the fiddle yard and the space outside the train shed put to use on track that would be used to "watch the trains go by". The result is this partially finished modification of Lausanne station. It ...

A few observations- timbering is interlaced on the diverging lines of all turnouts and mostly alternate. However, a sleeper which is interlaced between 2 others can be positioned almost anywhere between them, not centrally. Sleeper spacings vary from around 15" between edges (not centres) up to about 4ft. The only thing I can suggest is that you run a blank sheet through the printer first to heat it and pre-condition it. Or find some other way to heat the paper before use. Whether it should then be left to cool, or used hot, is a moot point. Anyone? The problem is likely to be worse during the winter months because of the generally damper atmosphere. Paper stored somewhere warm and dry for a few weeks and then kept in a sealed container should work better. For a single template the precision you are getting is perfectly adequate, because as you say all actual track construction is done using gauge tools. The problem arises when you have a large plan comprising several sheets in several rows and you want to fit them accurately together. Odd half-millimetres can add up and throw things out of alignment. As an alternative to the "official" means of calibrating the printer, you could try printing templates with a 50mm ...
