... components with Templot generated templates. I believe I can do the customization for things like the 11' points but I was hoping somebody had already climbed that learning curve and was willing to share. Hi Mark, Yes, there are some USA style templates available for downloading: h0_usa_turnouts.png These are in H0, but can be converted to Proto48 easily. On the the gauge/scale list dialog (other gauges... menu item), select P-48 and then click the convert group button at the top. A few things might need tidying up, for example the timber (tie) ends may no longer be set to "in-line". I don't know how closely these 11ft and 16ft-6in switches (points) match the American Switch& Signal products. If you further customize them, do please upload your files. Bear in mind when customizing, that in Templot and UK/Europe, a "switch" is the moving points section only, not an entire turnout. Download from: http://www.templot.com ...

The middle check rails(K crossing?) foul the curving slips. Also the tie bars seem to be crossing each other. Any advice would be welcome. When I have got the procedure right with a quite a few more tries I will perform the change of a diamond crossing to a double slip that I have in my full plan. This I have curved a little to suit the space and I would like to know if the check rails and slips will fit to the curving diamond. My practice template is attached. They are limited to P4 (obviously if you are working in P4 this is not a limitation, but you are out of luck if you are not) and they are a fair representation of LNER track, which is not GWR track. They are designed for use with the supplied templates. They do sell a starter kit at exhibitions that has a point kit and a few yards of track panels. Flextrack uses 3 bolt chairs. The chairing issue is a horses for courses thing. It really depends on how accurate you want your track to be. The flextrack that C&L sell for OO or EM or P4 looks great, but it's 3 bolt chaired. Such irregular diamonds are in the queue of developments for a future Templot upgrade. In fact the code is already written, and has been for several years. The standards I'm using for my 4mm scale narrow gauge are actually based on the 2mm Scale Association track and wheel standards, with the gauge reduced to 7.83mm (1ft 11.5in). The oft-quoted "P4 minus 11mm" is actually far too coarse. The flangeway is indeed 0.5mm, and normal N-gauge wheels won't go through.
