Cheers, Paul edit: video clips referred to are at: http://templot.com/companion/live_screen_archive.php posted: 7 Nov 2020 22:47 from: Martin Wynne Hi Paul, Welcome to Templot Club. Your second question first -- there isn't a specific function for outside sips, but provided the diamond-crossing is regular (all crossing angles equal), there are 2 special peg positions for the purpose which make it fairly straightforward to establish the alignments for an outside slip road. There is a video about using them to create an outside slip at: http://flashbackconnect.com/Movie.aspx?id=3o4-PiKKPVaAXZsePJOwSA2 It then needs some partial templates and timber shoving to finish the design. However what you describe "straight main line facing and trailing turnouts with one diamond obtuse crossing in main line four foot" sounds more like an offset half-scissors than an outside slip. The difference from a slip is that the switch deflections would be in the diamond roads ...

If you insert a turnout in this plain track, you will retain the lengths and spacings in any approach or exit track, but lose the widened joint sleepers. The solution to that is either to widen them individually, or in 091b and later you can to split off the approach and exit tracks as separate templates, and then align a copy of the library template over them -- peg/ align tools> align the control template over background template> facing-facing menu item, choose the delete option for the existing background template, then store& background for the new one. (In a future Pug I will include such widening as an option in the custom plain track settings, removing the need to shove them wider and the above procedures.) regards, Martin. posted: 23 Mar 2009 10:55 from: Martin Wynne I wrote ...

... topic: 390 Adding track to double slip. posted: 28 Mar 2008 02:42 from: George Ray I must be doing something wrong, so help please guys. I have constructed a scissors crossover with a double slip on one exit road. I then put a peg on the exit of the slip, put the notch under the peg and then try to add some plain track onto that notch. As soon as I move the track into position the notch moves from under the peg and the new track doesn't align with where I want it to go. Any help would be much appreciated. I should add that this is part of my storage yard and I managed somehow to get the other end to work out after suffering the same sort of problem, I thought I had sussed it but obviously I haven't. Won't guarantee that I have successfully preserved all the alignments of adjacent track (in any case all the exits from the tandem have been transitioned), but there has been no substantial change to such alignments. A 1:8 knuckle bend comes out with a bend very similar to the circumference of a Scalefour mug. So I bent the rail around that, carefully checking until the straight parts lined up with the stock rail and the wing rail of a Templot diagram (I put 0 flare on the wing rail and extended them considerably so that I would have something more to align them on). As a point of note, the curve should be even more gentle than the mug. I put a very slight taper on the nose of the vee and blunted it to .25mm and tack soldered. Now I have found that the wheel is dropping into the knuckle- not a lot and it is still supported on the outer edge, but only just. Thank you both for the info, looks like it worked. I was able to alter the rail lengths to avoid having rails going through the common crossing gaps. My other problem was where the common crossing was put where the two of the crossing rails, crossed each other. The problem was when I altered the Vee the crossing rails went out of alignment. I then had a light bulb moment and used the same process to alter both. By taking the Vee away from the template then putting it in the parking bay. Then recalled the Vee and changed the size followed by retrieving the crossing from the parking bay. All I think is nice and tidy. ... yes, for a simple turnout, you can fudge a working turnout by building it on an EM template using P4 gauges, or building it on a P4 template using EM gauges. But obviously the timbering won't match and the lead length will be a bit out, so it's not an ideal result. But as you say, this won't work for diamond-crossings and slips, because the distance between the vee tips is calculated from the track gauge. If you use a different gauge to build it, the rails won't align. I'm still a bit puzzled by what you are trying to achieve by building EM on a P4 plastic base?
