... on an embankment and over bridge, I have decided to go for an open plan baseboard, and have drafted a design in the CAD package, Fusion360. The problem I have is that I want to make sure the track bed is a) the right width and b) in the right place on the boards. I may be simply missing something, but is there any way that the data from Templot (really just the outer edges of the sleepers would be fine) can be exported in a format that could be imported into the CAD software and placed in position? I appreciate its asking something of Templot that it probably was not designed to do, but I also thought I cannot be the first person to consider it! Any help would be appreciated. The latter are for use where you have 0.12mm of gauge-widening, in order to preserve the correct check gauge. Mainly intended for continuous check rails in curved plain track, rather than pointwork. If you have some other amount of gauge-widening, you shouldn't use them -- prototype steam-era gauge widening is up to 3/4" max, which scales to 0.25mm. In pointwork the check gauge is so important that I would prefer to use a soldered construction for crossing check rails and add the chairing detail as cosmetic half-chairs only. regards, Martin. posted: 14 Nov 2007 12:53 from: Paul Boyd Matt wrote: I am modelling GWR trackwork Ah- do you have "The Bible"? But still the picture shapes seem to cause confusion for some users. So for the next program update I have had yet another go. There are some changes in functionality. In addition to the previous methods: 1. picture shapes can be created directly by dragging and dropping an image file onto the trackpad. 2. Templot can obtain the image for a picture shape directly from a scanner without needing a file name. 3. Generally I have changed the sequence so that the image is specified first, and the picture shape size and position is set up second. This is back to front as far as the code is concerned, but seems to be the way human brains prefer to work. So here are some of the new dialogs. Really ...

This has caused users so much confusion that it will be changed in the next Pug version -- Templot will automatically put a copy of the image in the folder for you, in its own SK8 format. However, if you have reached the 32,000 shapes limit, it's unlikely that you are using a picture shape. You have probably imported a DXF file which has been vectorized from the BMP file. There is no way round the 32,000 limit, sorry. You can thin out the vectorized shapes by clicking the modify all tab> delete 25% or delete 50% buttons. This makes room to import some more if you can break your BMP image into sections before vectorizing each section to separate DXF files. Alternatively there are probably some settings in your vectorizing software to control the complexity of the DXF file and the number of entities created. Most ...

The job starts with developing the Template (my shorthand for a template developed in Templot!) two copies of which are then printed- one to make a "rail forming and sub assembly pre-fabrication jig" and the second to stick to the base board so that the track can be built directly upon it. It is important that the prefabrication jig is perfectly level so I make mine by spray-mounting the Template to a piece of 10mm thick laminate flooring which is flat, hard and rigid. If you have not just redone your flooring, go to you local flooring shop- they usually have a few bits to give away as samples.
