... topic: 2093 Help needed to locate original storage box posted: 30 Oct 2012 21:55 from: Mal2085 My apologies if this has already been raised before but I am having trouble trying to find some track plans from some time ago. this is my tale and I hope some knowledgable soul may be able to help and point me in the right direction. I bought Templot a few years ago, plugged away at it and managed to complete a couple of track plans placing them in my storage box. Having achieved the plans I printed one out and put it away for another day in anticipation of making a start on track laying. Regrettably that didn't happen, the track plan looked a bit dog-eared when I found it with some bits missing, in the interim I had also changed my computer. Once again my thoughts turned to the old track plan and I went to the Templot Website. I had not visited templot for many months, possibly years. All had changed, Templot 2 was now the software and so I downloaded ...

... Similarly with 0-MF, which I am considering despite it seeming to be counter-intuitive to make the gauge even narrower. (but going the other way to S7 is definitely out, not least because I own too many wheels!) I do have one scratchbuilt loco with Alan Harris wheels set to 29.4 b-to-b and I will need to check if this is happy with the crucial "check rail to opposite rail-face" measurement in 0-MF. So, all in all quite a few parameters to play around with, and some useful additions to my knowledge of trackwork. Again many thanks for your help, and all best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. My R800 has just been pensioned off. I'd like to go A3, but am dithering between R1500, R2000 and R3000. Whether it's worthwhile sticking out for a roll feed facility is a significant question. In the meantime I'm making do with an R200, and am pleasantly surprised with the (photographic) results I'm getting. Due to cutbacks, part of the line is now disused and the station forms a terminus with run round facility. The other main line is predominantly freight with the occasional through passenger (its actually a continuous run). When the line was fully operational, being about half way along the branch, it provided limited loco facilities for engine changes- which still survive. ... of flat bottom rail? Thanks J Hi Julia Joggle is the term used in my copy of British Railway Track so I think that is a reasonable authority for the the use of the term. The techniques for making joggles described in the 2mm book, which include using it for FB rail, work well in that scale and I think they would probably work in 4mm scale, although you might need to use a vice rather than pliers to press the rail. It would be easy enough to try as it only requires a few scraps of brass and a short length of rail. The form of chamfering illustrated by Martin is designed to minimise the removal of steel from the stock rail in order to maintain its strength. Luckily this aspect of rail strength is much less of an issue for modellers so we can use a version where most of the foot of the stock rail is filed away in a simple taper and the switch has a matching taper. I thought I had changed my track spacings but I also suspect I have just added to my confusion as the spacing ring may not have been at the dia I needed. I then probably compounded my mistake by not setting the control template correctly so that my subsequent test pieces were wrong as well. Oh well, we live and learn. So my way ahead is: Try out your suggestions and get more comfortable with doing things the correct way. (This may also involve a few more tutorials). Then start the bigger project from the beginning again and hope that I don't lose my way quite so easily. Thanks again for your help. A few months ago I was assisting a model railway group to work out a track plan for S7 modelling, and the original plans they had, which was of a proto site, had not been printed to any of the normal usual scales. I ended up with having to 'inch' the background shape input to a scale of 643.288 to get a known length on the actual ground to the correct S7 model length on the background image.
