... rail will only hold the head! Something else to be aware of- make sure the rail is actually sitting flat. I think accurately making a tool that will cut a slot to hold both head and foot is beyond me. Some parts of the layout will be in BH, so the suite of gauges made for that rail (3mm Society code 60 BH) will still get used. The head is slightly smaller so the gauges won't fit the FB rail. Thanks to everyone who's contributed to this thread! I had printed some build templates once, but now I have to have a close look at the turnouts again and tweak them a bit in light of the plethora of information provided! ... pink+ mark on the Templot template doesn't show the tip of the vee, it shows the position of the "Fine Point" (FP), i.e. the intersection of the track gauge lines, at peg position CTRL-4. The actual vee nose should be blunted back in the prototypical fashion so that it is strong enough to withstand wheel impacts and is properly supported in the "A" chair on the "A" timber. Here's a close-up of a Templot template showing that: blunt_nose.png It's worth printing a duplicate copy of the template so that the position of details obscured by the timbers can be checked during construction. For bullhead track the blunt nose width is 3/4" wide at the tip which scales to 0.44mm (17 thou) at 7mm/ft, so it's quite noticeably blunt and looks so much better than a sharp vee hanging in fresh air between the timbers. (GWR is 11/16" wide, 0.40mm, 16 thou). For 0-MF (31.5mm track gauge) the flangeways ...

Untitled-2.jpg John posted: 27 Jul 2020 13:07 from: Martin Wynne Hi John, That function is working, but I think possibly you missed the operative word "output" on there. It applies only for printed templates and exported PDF files, not on the trackpad. Sorry, there isn't a function to show the sketchboard items on the trackpad in front of anything else. It would be tricky to implement and significantly affect the screen response speed. What I suggest you could do if you want to design sketchboard items over the map, would be to put the map as an image on the sketchboard, rather than having it as a visible picture shape on the trackpad. You can save an image file from the picture shape, ...

With the three components closed together, I have to look closely at the line to see that it is an assignment and not a numerical expression (abc-123) or a procedure call (abc_123). Your point about syntax highlighting is a very good one, and it does make the operator stand out in the editor... but not in here... and not if I print out the code so I can scribble on it (does anyone really do that any more?) And the example of the sentence with no spaces was intended only to demonstrate that spaces do help to highlight structure. ANYWAY... I promised I would not talk about specific formatting points. I am so clearly right about this that I don't see how anyone could possibly disagree! Which is great... EXCEPT... you DO disagree, and are just as totally convinced by your way of doing things ...

If you send me, or upload as an attachment to Templot Club, a .box file containing your overlaid plain track templates, I will create the irregular diamond template(s) for you. I can return them in .bgs file format which you can add into your background shapes on the pad. You can then print them out along with the adjacent templates in the usual way. After last trying in 2005 and being told by Network rail that they were "not in a position to provide members of the public with drawings or records" and more recently trying the search facility on the network rail archive website, but to no avail, I was extremely pleased when a request via "ask the archivist" provided me with a link to order (via their print facility) all the extant drawings for Singleton that had originally been in "The Plan Arch" at Waterloo.
