... where they connect to the next template. This would then set the start elevation for the next template and the gradient could be changed, etcetera.... This would enable users to have instant access to elevations, slopes and clearances. To me this seems like an easy task. However, I'm not the one who will have to code it. Ignore the last Sentence, it's just barefaced cheek. Cheers Godders posted: 11 Dec 2014 18:36 from: Martin Wynne Hi Godders, I've looked at this a few times. But what seems to be simple is in fact a minefield. I set out originally to create a 2-D track plan referenced to the rail top. This is essential if the templates are to be usable at full-size for track construction. If you introduce a 3rd dimension that all changes -- the 2-D view becomes a projection onto the horizontal, which can no longer be used as a construction template. The track needed for an incline is longer than the horizontal distance between the two ...

I recollect from previous discussions on forum that (a) Templot can produce a "format" page to calibrate a printer- how is this facility accessed within Templot? How can I adjust the printer output without recourse to using Templot? Hi Graham, It's important when printing PDF template files to select the "no scaling" or 100% option, rather than the default "fit to page" setting. If that doesn't solve the problem, a few pointers: It is better to measure the grid squares rather than the rails. Only straight rails should be measured. On curved track in Templot the rail joints are measured along the track centre-line. The inner rail will be shorter than the set length and the outer rail will be longer. I know this is prototypically wrong -- the outer rail should measure the set length, and special "short rails" should be used at intervals on the inner side to keep the joint stagger within limits. A Brief History: The line was originally built to double-track mainline standards by the Lanky with the intention of tunnelling through Blackstone Edge to provide an alternative route into Lancashire. However, it proved to be "a dangerous and expensive enterprise" (including a viaduct which had to be rebuilt because the first one collapsed just before completion!) so it terminated at Rishworth opposite the schools (named as Slitheroe on the original contractors drawings hence the layout name). Apart from the first few months it was always run as single line. Ripponden and Triangle having two platforms both losing one platform by 1906 with Rishworth only ever having the one. Trains ran in both directions on the former up line (The Platform Road on the layout) after crossing over at Ripponden with the other line being used as a long siding between Triangle and Watson's Crossing Halt to store excursion stock and as a head shunt for the goods yard at Rishworth.
