... topic: 3168 3-way tandem turnouts in 218a posted: 2 Jan 2018 13:36 from: Martin Wynne I have been trying to automate at least partially the creation of 3-way tandem turnouts. This new function will be in 218a update shortly. It's not perfect, but hopefully will be helpful for those struggling with them. This is the way I do it, which may be right or wrong. I work on the basis that each element of the turnout is made up of standard components, i.e., three crossings and two switches. On the prototype, the timber spacing within each component was pretty much fixed so that the special chairs would fit so that's what you have to base the overall timbering on. ... long time ago. In practice everything depends on the actual circumstance -- the amount of slew and length of slewing zone. Alternatively you can build up what you want using 3 transition curve templates -- easement from straight to first curve; S-curve transition from first curve to second curve; easement from second curve to straight. Use the make transition functions to create the central S-curve (remembering to move the outer pegs to the curved ends while you do it). The disadvantage there will be inserting the tandem turnout and double slip across the template boundaries, leading to lots of additional partial templates. With a slew it is a single template and you can insert a turnout anywhere within it and then roam the turnout into position. If you post a screenshot or .box file it will be easier to suggest the best approach. regards, Martin. posted: 6 Jan 2012 14:53 from: r_wilton Hi Martin. Had you reported the bug a couple of hours earlier I would have delayed the release in order to fix the bug first. That has happened several times in the past -- someone finds a bug which has existed for 20 years and reports it within minutes of a new update being released. I think it's called Sod's Law. There is a significant bug in the make tandem function which no-one else has found in the 2+ years that function has been available. Many thanks for finding it and reporting it. It happens when the starting turnout for a single-sided tandem has a turnout radius larger than the "natural" radius for the V-crossing angle. That usually means having a curviform or generic V-crossing with an angle flatter than the "natural" angle for the switch. In your case a B-switch with 1:8.5 angle (the natural crossing ...
