... where I can change such things, but I dare not release them for fear of the massive support load it would create for me. As it is I'm typing this at gone 3am. The intention is that if you create a custom template it should be for one specific size of turnout. To create a range of templates matching a specific prototype company practice, you should create each size separately, and put them all in a .box file to be used individually. You can't produce just one custom template for the user to adjust as required, at least not if you want to guarantee prototypical accuracy. Of course you need only to create straight turnouts, a user can always curve them as required. N.B. Note that in the next TDV update there will be some big changes in the area of check rail and wing rail settings, so you may want to hold fire until that is available. p.s. Many thanks for compiling the excellent table of LNWR crossing data. If only such a table were available for other companies. Is that correct ...

... topic: 3425 Flangeway Clearances- 3 Way Tandem Turnout posted: 4 May 2019 04:06 from: Roger N Hello All, I have recently produced an EM-FS "shunting plank" design in Templot to learn track building and to test out stock before moving up to a layout. This design includes a LH/RH tandem turnout created using the "Make 3-way tandem turnout" tool which worked well except for a couple of issues regarding clearances. I am unsure how to best adjust the following in a prototypical manner. 1. How much adjustment can be made to the LH wing rail for the middle crossing to create a flangeway without affecting wheel movement through the crossing? 2. How much adjustment can be made to the associated middle crossing check rail on the RH turnout side, again without affecting wheel movement through the crossing? 3134_032304_090000000.png Additionally, I can identify the switch type for the LH turnout as B but do not know how to interpret the switch type for the RH turnout from the component data. ... inch historic map of the whole country, which is the smallest scale which can really be used for track planning with any hope of replicating prototype turnout sizes and actual positions of pointwork. That's still a work-in-progress at NLS -- so far they have done about half of the many thousands of sheets needed for England& Wales. Which means it is not yet available as a subscription API for direct loading of tiles. But it is available as a "slippy map" web site with a useful option of adjustable transparency over an underlying base map or aerial image -- in effect you get two maps for each web URL. Which means screenshots can be made manually for use as background picture shapes. The difficulty is sizing them to the exact scale to match your model. So I thought I would look at supplementing the directly loaded maps with an option for Templot to make the screenshots for you, and insert them automatically at the correct scaled size. It's working quite well, and will be in the next program update. 2_062230_270000003.png ...

... background templates when the file is loaded. Well done with the tandem. It's great for a first effort. A few pointers: The left-hand turnout very likely needs to have a curviform V-crossing to match your track plan. This is often the case for contraflexure. (But not if it is part of a crossover. Templot can't make this change automatically for contraflexure because only you know what it's for.) When you change it, the turnout radius will change, so you will very likely need to adjust the middle V-crossing to match. Put the timbering back on for that V-crossing, and omit the existing timbers below it. That way you will have the vee nose correctly supported on a timber. At present you have it in fresh air between them. You used an ordinary turnout to create the middle V-crossing. Nowadays in Templot2 it is easier to use a gaunt turnout, or an irregular half-diamond. That way the turnout radius can be adjusted independently of the crossing angle. ( ...

... no. If you want to use a middle crossing of the same hand as the turnout over which you are aligning it (why?), you would need to swap over the two radii (which would be tricky to do). The main road curving would still need to be negative. To align it you would need to put its peg on TCP, and use SHIFT+ F9 to slide it into position. You would need to swap the peg to CTRL+ 44 (press CTRL+ 4 twice) before adjusting the crossing angle. Even then I'm not entirely sure it would work every time, if the gaunt curve is quite short. You can align anything using the peg and notch functions, but generally it is much better to perform translations along the main road. So I won't be recommending that method. If you really want the middle crossing to be a different hand, it would be better to start from the other base turnout, and make it the opposite of that. regards, Martin. posted: 11 Dec 2017 ...

My conclusion is that the timber spacing is much wider and the timbers slightly longer, though with the Peco track being of crazy track format its slightly difficult to compare exactly. In my version 2 plan I have adjusted the timbers for a better match with the Peco flexi track, but at the expense of not matching the set and stock gauge for the switch, the initial thought was to manually adjust the position of these when building the turnout. Or (which I probably will do) adjust the position of the timbers gradually to the tip of the vee, I could also include a version using a 9' switch, though I prefer my larger turnout to the looks of the more squat Peco design even though its about 30mm longer ...

... yes do it. Cheers, Mike posted: 23 Dec 2010 00:19 from: Nigel Brown Mike In principal you do just what the real track engineers do, just look at the plan and imagine how moving the odd sleeper/timber along a bit and/or giving it a twist might get things to fit; there may be rules for this, but I reckon using a bit of common sense will go a long way. If it looks OK it probably is OK. To actually do it, go to adjust -> shove timbers. In the panel which comes up, click on the pale yellow thing down on the bottom right. This will bring up a dialogue asking you which timber you want to adjust; take the number from your plan. The timber will turn to red on your template. Now you can use controls like twist, backword, forward etc to move that timber around. The panel should give you a good idea of the range of things you can do. I'd recommend just giving it a try. ...
