My wife and I have worked on Word and Excel for years, so we are both well versed. I doubt that we would want to have to learn a whole new package unless there was a guarantee all our our existing documents will be compatible. Open Office may have the same problem according to various Mac forums and until they develop a 64 bit version, it is unlikely to be compatible with Catalina. ... topic: 2454 Admin: please help me test a new video format posted: 8 May 2014 16:23 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, I have been experimenting with a new interactive format for the Templot tutorial videos. The FBR format (FlashBack Recording) is developed by UK company Blueberry Software. The name FlashBack is misleading -- for our purpose this is a Windows executable format similar to the existing Camtasia screen videos, it's not related to Adobe Flash files on web sites. But unlike Camtasia it can include some useful interactive functions, and the video editor is much quicker and easier to use, at least for me. I would be grateful if you would help me test this, and report any issues arising. The first thing to do is to download and install version 209b of Templot. This will install the FlashBack player in your Templot program folder. Here's the file: http://85a.co.uk/fbr/templot_209b_setup.exe I will then post a test FBR file for you to download and try. It describes the development process of this function, and the first messages do not necessarily represent the finished program. Well that was fun. How much actual use can be made of it remains to be seen. Lots of folks like to use maps as a background guide to their track planning. But it's not always straightforward to capture and merge multiple screenshots from the mapping web sites, and scale them accurately to match the model scale. So I thought it would be useful if Templot could load maps directly from the server. That way the map can be as large as you like, within reason, and Templot can do the scaling to your model scale automatically. The big fly in that ointment is the copyright and licensing restrictions on most mapping and aerial imagery web sites. But that doesn't apply to OpenStreetMap (OSM), so I have had a ...

Perhaps (and this is no criticism) the issue is that for people coming to Templot new, its difficult to understand the documentation/find out how to do something. I'm guessing the software has grown over the years and its a case of the documentation hasm't kept up, likely because from a time point of view its one or the other (been there, done that!) and in the end any developer would always go with making the software do what he/she/the users want, rather than writing documentation that may never be read. Another problem is probably us the users, being more interested in diving in and having a go, rather than sitting down and reading the manual to find out HOW we should be doing it!
