Without spending a lot of time trying out various combinations, does anyone know what combinations in that region (1 :6 to 1:8) work? Hi Ian, 1:8+ 1:6 usually works quite well. There is one such B8+ A6 in the Samples and examples section: topic 29 There is also a video available showing the basics of doing a tandem turnout. Scroll down to 3-way tandem turnouts. That one is a B8+ A7 tandem. If both angles are the same, it usually means a 3-throw turnout rather than a tandem. regards, Martin. We're not too worried about the need for high speed turnouts- in our experience, as long as we keep within the 1200 minimum radius constraint, then trains will happily run at way over maximum line speed. The Holyhead-Euston express, long-term resident on road 16, regularly negotiates the trailing and facing A6 part of the tandem turnout plus return curve without difficulties. As long as we keep the double junction in the fiddle yard rather than as part of the scenic section then we don't need to worry about appearances. We also need to bear in mind possible constraints with exhibition managers and keep overall dimensions as reasonable as possible. This means that I would like to be as tight as possible with the additional depth allocated to the new fiddle yard and as generous as possible with any new scenic sections. Another constraint to think about:- One of ...

I have made a single slip on the mainline, I followed the video tutorial and I think I have done it right? 2. Because I am running out of space for the goods yard behind the station and cannot move the whole thing up I really need to add in a 3 way tandem turnout (So I can remove a point and save a little space). Now I tried to follow all the old instructions but when I added the 3rd set with no timbers it looked horribly wrong. So if anyone out there has experience with them that could help me get that finished that would be a big help as it's the only thing I am stuck on. This was one reason for introducing gaunt turnouts -- for use as a partial template forming the middle crossing in a 3-way turnout (tandem or three-throw types). Note that in many cases you may find using an irregular half-diamond template gives better results and is easier to adjust than a gaunt turnout.
