... marks, checking with a straight-edge that it is dead straight. Then work forward over the curved section, aligning to the template and gauging from the crossing vee. For an A switch, the 29.3mm dimension between the marks is shortened to 22.0mm (i.e. the set angle is 1:24 for an A switch). The stock-gauge remains the same dimension as before. A bit of practice helps of course. Don't expect to get it perfect on your very first turnout. You will soon discover the importance of checking the rail against the template before starting to fix it down. 11. If you get it right you will find adding the switch blades later is dead easy. They will seat properly along the full length of the planing and almost gauge themselves. You may even want to delay making the switch blades until the stock rails are in place. You can then try clipping them against the stock rails and filing the planing until they seat all along and align correctly at the stock gauge position to give the correct track ...

My posts have been more about trying to understand it- apologies if they came across as complaining! The ability to receive posts by email is very important to me, otherwise I would never see them- I'm not one of those that frequently logs into forums just to see what's there. Adding the new file back into the old one automatically renumbers those templates from 1-20 to say 90-110. Thinking about it, it is obvious why it does that. The original templates numbered 1-10 have been deleted and I think Templot then sees the imported templates as new ones and renumbers them. Does it renumber all of them or just the ones that have changed? Of course when I then print out the new templates the numbers have all changed and I have trouble realigning the new templates at one end with the old ones at the other end without reprinting them all. If that is correct then I don't have an issue with it as now I know what is happening I can deal with it. Here's hoping the penny has dropped in the right slot... ...

So at present you can change almost everything in Templot, but on start-up it reverts to the default hard-coded settings. Some time ago I asked group members for a shortlist of settings for a temporary fix, but there was no consensus, everyone had their own most important setting to be saved. Some seemed strange to me -- one member said the most important setting to save was the font used in the info panel. I'm aware that saved settings would please many users, and it is on the list. The tightest radius is on the entry turnouts, at 17.5". This should be OK for most applications, although you may not want to get a 9F through it! To use this formation, you'll need to import it to your current plan as a library (Storage box => Add library), and also read up about handling grouped templates- you'll need to group all of these so that the whole formation can be moved as one. I've left the peg at the Ctrl-0 point on each of the entry turnouts which should help with alignment. Anyway, that kept me quiet for a couple of hours or so! One important point for me is the size of my file- it is a 14" bastard cut. I also have a 14" smooth cut for finishing. I am only showing one bit of rail in the pics, but when doing the BACKS of switch tongues you can do three pairs at a time. For switches and crossing V's, if you can afford it, both C&L and Exactoscale do switch blades, and C&L does crossing V's (not sure if Exactoscale does. The crossings don't cover all possibilities, just the main ones, but that may do for a lot of what you want. One way of working out what turnouts are needed is to get hold of a decent plan, import it into Templot as a background shape, and then try to reproduce it in Templot on top. In the absence of more detailed info that may be the best way; it should get you pretty close to what was used. Is it feasible? It'll take a fair bit of time, if you're prepared for that.
